<p>One of the top games around the state on Wednesday night was a non-conference showdown between MICDS and visiting Vianney.</p>

<p>Both teams entered the game ranked in the top five of the latest Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Class 5 rankings. Vianney is ranked No. 2 while MICDS is ranked No. 3.</p>

<p>Vianney scored the first basket off the game, but from that point on, it was all MICDS as they rolled to an impressive 61-45 victory. The put together an excellent defensive effort to hold Vianney's potent offense to less than 50 points. On offense, they had balanced scoring with four players in double figures.</p>

<p>NO. 1 STAR: TYLER RAY (MICDS)</p>

<p>The 6'4" 2027 forward scored 14 points and played an excellent all-around floor game for the Rams. He was playing every position on the floor and having an impact on the game in multiple ways. He was playing the point-forward role role as a primary ball handler and facilitator. He was rebounding well and starting the break with some terrific lead passes which led to transition buckets. He hit a nice turnaround jumper from 15 feet and he was getting out in transition for easy scores.</p>

<p>NO. 2 STAR: GABE WEAVER (MICDS):</p>

<p>The 6'7" 2026 University of Minnesota football recruit had one of his best games of the season as he scored a team-high 16 points. He was matched up against Vianney's talented 7'0" 2028 center [player_tooltip player_id='2564264' first='Mamadou' last='Barry'] and he played very well. He got things going on offense by hitting three wide open jumpers from about 15 feet. In the second half he did a great job of finishing around the basket. He drove it well and he was scoring inside with both hands. He also stepped in a took a charge on the defensive lane. His emergence as a consistent scoring threat in the paint has helped taken the Rams to another level.</p>

<p>The 6'4" 2026 combo guard scored 12 points for the Rams, which included a pair of 3-pointers. He played with excellent pace and had a couple of nice finishes in the transition game. He was also very effective when he was slashing into the lane and either getting a bucket or drawing the foul. He also played some excellent defense on Vianney's talented perimeter players.</p>

He has a good combination of strength and finesse, which makes him an effective offensive player. He could power his way into the lane to score tough baskets and he hit an open 3-pointer. He makes good uses of shot fakes or the jab step on the perimeter to set up his moves as well.</p>

He also showed how diverse his game has become. He scored his first bucket on a nice baseline drive for a layup. He also passed it well, including a nifty backdoor pass to a cutting teammate for a layup.</p>
