Week Two Rankings Update
After another eventful week of games, it's time to update the team rankings across all four classes. Below we detail some of the key movement in each class, and at the bottom of the article you'll find the fully updated rankings.
In Class 1A, the top five six teams remain the same, headlined by top-ranked St. Edmond (2-0). The Gaels have played just two games so far, but have blown out both Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Iowa Falls-Alden, and hold tight in the top spot. They're followed by Bishop Garrigan (2-1), Boyden-Hull (3-1), Coon Rapids-Bayard (5-0), and Woodbine (5-0) in the top five. Notre Dame (5-0), MMCRU (4-0), and Lynnville-Sully (4-0) each move up a spot to 7-8-9, respectively, following Madrid's loss. As a result of Madrid's loss, Earlham (5-0), who beat the Pleasantville team that beat Madrid, enters the rankings at #10. The Cardinals were one of a handful of teams under consideration for that final spot this week.
Despite a loss on Saturday night, Kuemper Catholic (3-1) holds onto the #1 spot in Class 2A. That loss came on a neutral floor (Iowa Central) to the top-ranked team in Class 3A. The Knights don't deserve to be punished for scheduling an aggressive game like that. Unity Christian (5-0), Treynor (5-0), and Western Christian (2-1) each hold their spots behind Kuemper, while Cherokee (4-0) has been a pleasant surprise so far this season and comes in at #5. Cascade (4-0) jumps four spots to #6 following a slew of losses by teams in the bottom half of the rankings. Those losses opened the door for Denver (4-0) and Mid-Prairie (3-0) to make their season debuts at #9 and #10, respectively.
On the strength of that impressive win over Kuemper Catholic, Clear Lake (2-0) holds onto the top spot in Class 3A, followed by ADM (4-0), Storm Lake (4-0), Xavier (2-0), and Ballard (4-0) in the top five. Wahlert Catholic (3-0) moves up a few spots, as does Solon, with the Golden Eagles and Spartans checking in at #7 and #8. The lone newcomer this week is #9 Sioux Center (4-0), who knocked off defending champion MOC-Floyd Valley, the 8th ranked team in last weeks' rankings.
The class that usually has the least movement, Class 4A, has the most movement this week as there are five newcomers. Teams ranked 5th and 7th through 10th all suffered at least one loss last week, with each loss coming to an unranked team, which led to a ton of shakeup. The class is still led by Waukee Northwest (4-0), Cedar Falls (3-0), Waukee (4-0), Dowling Catholic (4-0), and Senior (2-0) moves up a spot to #5. Ames (4-0) leads the newcomers, checking in at #6. The Little Cyclones are allowed just 34.5 points per game so far this season. Muscatine (4-0), Bettendorf (3-0), Ankeny (3-1), and Council Bluffs Lincoln (3-0) are the other newcomers this week, entering at #7 through #10, respectively.
