New No. 1-ranked teams at the Divisions 2 and 5 levels highlight this week's Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association/Prep Hoops Wisconsin state-wide poll of high school boys' basketball teams.
Singer, which posted convincing wins over Kewaskum and Cedarburg last week, has overtaken defending WIAA Division 2 state champion Wauwatosa West as the No. 1-ranked Division 2 team in the state. The Owls return all five starters from a club that went 24-3 a year ago. Wauwatosa West had been ranked No. 1 in Division 2 but suffered a last-second loss at Waterford.
At the Division 5 level, North Crawford is this week's top-ranked squad as the Trojans won a pair of games last week over River Ridge and Riverdale to move to 2-0 on the season. The previous top-ranked squad in Division 5, Sheboygan Lutheran, dropped a non-league game to a very good Winnebago Lutheran squad and slipped to No. 3 in the poll.
Wisconsin Lutheran in Division 1, Racine St. Catherine's in Division 3 and Milwaukee Juneau in Division 4, despite a loss to West Allis Central, remain atop of their respective divisions. Of note in Division 3 is a game tomorrow pitting St. Catherine's against second-ranked Racine Lutheran in a Metro Classic Conference clash at St. Catherine's.
