At Prep Hoops, our main mission is to cover prospects of all levels, not just the top players in our markets. As we head into the new year, we thought it would be a good time to highlight some of the prospects who have committed to non D1 schools. Here's a look at 6 players that we know of that have committed to Division 3 schools and what they can bring to their school next year.

Brandon has been one of the top guards in the Richmond area over the past couple of seasons, and Macon put in the work early as they made him a priority since he was a junior and got the job done this year. He's a very good athlete who is strong and quick with the ability to get downhill and finish through traffic, he shoots it well with a quick release and deep range, and he is a true leader and one of those guards who consistently plays the right way.

[player_tooltip player_id='2548297' first='Gart' last='Heller'] | 6'7” PF | Powhatan | Shenandoah University (D3 VA)

Heller recently committed to Shenandoah after having a big preseason where he showed a lot of improvement over the past few years and will only continue to improve moving forward. He's a good athlete who can run the floor and play above the rim, he has good hands and soft touch with both hands around the rim, and he's really improved his timing and coordination as he continues to grow into his body.

[player_tooltip player_id='2692345' first='Paul' last='Edde'] | 6'6” PF | Cosby | Randolph College (D3 VA)

Edde is another Richmond big man with a lot of upside, and his commitment to Randolph gives the Wildcats a player to develop who can also make an immediate impact with his size and high motor. He's the type of big man who is willing to do the dirty work on the glass and on the defensive end, he runs the floor hard and moves well off the ball, and he has shown a lot of improvement in his ability to score in the paint and in the midrange as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='3071141' first='Grant' last='Butler'] | 6'1” WG | Deep Run | Elmira College (D3 NY)

Butler had a breakout junior season last year for Deep Run, and he had a good summer where he caught the eye of a number of division three schools, eventually committing to Elmira College in the Empire 8 Conference in central New York. The 6'1” off guard has a chance to make an immediate impact as he's a lights out shooter from deep with a quick release and deep range, he moves well off the ball and can knock down shots on the move, and he shows great instincts on both ends of the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='2459364' first='Ryan' last='Flippo'] | 6'6” F | Benedictine | Shenandoah University (D3 VA)

Flippo has quietly been one of the best players in the Richmond area over the past few years, and Shenandoah gets another high upside player who can be a versatile mismatch in the ODAC with his blend of size and skill. At 6'6” he has long arms and moves his feet well on the defensive end of the floor, he can stretch the floor with his shooting ability from deep, and he can put it on the deck and get by slower defenders or shoot over smaller defenders too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2780090' first='Max' last='Lawson'] | 6'2” WG | Riverside | Mary Washington (D3 VA)

Lawson chose to stay close to home committing to Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, a nationally ranked team with a lot of firepower that he'll fit right into when he gets there next year. The 6'2” wing is a scoring guard who can get hot and fill it up in bunches when he gets it going, he's a knock down shooter from deep who can make shots on the move and when spotting up, and even when the shots aren't falling he brings toughness and a competitive chip every game he plays.
