Don Nelson Classic: Castro Valley vs Fairfield

PH NorCal was at Dublin High School for 3 games of the Don Nelson Classic in its 20th Season. It give us an opportunity to seeteams we don't see to often. Castro Valley 7-3 of the West Alameda County League defeated Fairfield, from the Greater Sacramento League 84-39 to win the consolation game. We have Newcomers, stock risers, and players we'll put on the Watch List to see again.    He's been a consistent combo guard from NorCal for a while now. He made the All Tournament team with his play over 3 games. He averaged 20pts the first 2 games. Third game was a blowout win. He makes a team better with his style of play. He gets others involved with ball movement, he finds cutters, and 3 point shooters. At 6'1 he helps rebounds, boxes out, defends multiple positions.     The Junior guard leads his team in scoring at 19.3 per game. He's a rising prospect with improving guard skills. He handles the ball a lot for this team. Brings it up under pressure, runs point the point, sets the offense on occasion. He can go coast to coast to get a bucket. He often gets by defenders finishing drives with either hand. He shows toughness putting the ball in the basket, plays through the bumps.     A solid combo guard we don't see often. He's a good ball handler with moves including crossovers, and change of direction going to the basket from different angles. He'll drop 3-pointers with form on the catch from the corners, and wings. He handles in transition, will go hard and strong in transition.     Harris scored 24 of the teams 84 points in 3 quarters of play. He got things done on both sides of the all in this game. He's got good lift finishing strong around the rim in traffic. Standing around 6'0 he had multiple transition dunks, and blocks. He drives hard into the paint for points, and assists. He's got hang time, can take a hit. He'll drop corner 3's if left unattended.     He's around 6'4 plays center and power forward on this team. A good size body, he moves, and jumps well going after rebounds, and taking it up strong off two around the rim. He might be the teams top rebounder. He has the strength to battle, and defend his position in the post. He had good runs up court after rebounding.     He showed good activity on both side going after rebounds, second on the team with 5.4r per game. That number will probably go up as the season progresses. Standing around 6'4, with lengthy arms and a growing body. He's still raw in his development, has some tools to work with. He's an alert post defender, needs to get stronger but doesn't mind mixing it up. He goes on the 2028 Watch List.
