This past Saturday, I headed to Clovis High for Day 2 of its annual Clovis Elks Tournament. The event features 10 teams playing in a 4-day showcase format, with each team playing in 4 games. Like all the holiday tournaments that started after Christmas, Sunday was an off day, and play resumed Monday. I was there for all 5 games played on Saturday, capped off with a great match-up between Clovis West and Justin Garza of Fresno. This article takes a look at 8 seniors that had standout performances on Day 2. In this article you will find the following information: player's information, my own personal recorded statistics, and a brief description of each player's skill sets and how they performed at the Elks. The players are listed in alphabetical order, not ranked order, and we begin with Diego Aguilar.

The 6-foot combo guard can impact the game playing on or off the ball, can space the floor from the perimeter, and plays with good pace and control with the ball in his hands. Aguilar led all players in scoring in Merced's win over West Tracy, as he would go for 19 points and connected on 3 threes in the process. Aguilar moves fluidly off the ball to get to his shot spots, has the handles and moves to create space from his defender, using the crossover and hesitation moves, is effective with the jumper from the mid-range to the 3-point line off the bounce or the catch, and is a crafty scorer when going at the basket. Aguilar has good court vision, finds the open man off the drive and kick pass, and is a solid perimeter defender with good timing to close out and deflect shots. Part of a solid trio of seniors for the Bears that make up a solid perimeter attack for Merced.

The 6-foot-2 lead guard displayed his ability to impact the game in various ways on both sides of the ball, can score in volume, and can make plays for himself or his teammates with the ball in his hands. Beshwate controlled the pace of play throughout the first half against Kerman, as he looked to set-up teammate James Galpin who had it going early around the basket. But as the Lions closed the gap on the Eagles in the 4th quarter behind the hot hand of junior Von Bibioff, it was Beshwate that took the initiative and attacked the Lions defense, making plays and getting to the free throw line, as he would finish with a team-high 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals. Beshwate has solid handles, keeps the ball on a string to survey the floor, uses the crossover, behind-cross, and hesitation moves to get his defender peddling backwards, changes pace and direction smoothly to weave through the defense, has the court vision to find open players off the drive and kick pass, and is a good positional rebounder to make accurate passes up the floor to players ahead in transition. Beshwate is accurate with the jumper from the mid-range to the 3-point line off the bounce or the catch, and is a creative scorer around the basket with the Euro-step or reverse lay-ups, as well as touch on the floater. Defensively, Beshwate has active hands, good lateral movement to stay in front of his opponent, and quick hands to poke the ball out or timing to jump passing lanes. Key impact player for the Eagles as the lead guard.

The 6-foot-3 wing/forward excels in the open court, is active on the boards, and can score it effectively within 20-feet of the basket. Harris had a slow start to the game against El Capitan of Merced, but got it going in the second quarter and would score half of his team-high 16 points in that frame to provide the punch needed to extend the lead to nearly twenty points at the half, 33 to 16. Harris would finish with 16 points and 6 rebounds and his ability to find the dunker spot or get ahead of the defense in the open court allowed him numerous uncontested scoring opportunities. Harris is solid on the boards, gets easy putback points off the offensive rebound, has the length to alter shots in the paint, as well as the agility to step out and contest perimeter shots, moves well off the ball to get to the open spot in the mid-post or the dunker spot extended for open looks, and runs the floor well in the open court with good touch at the basket. Harris will be relied upon with his varsity experience and his ability to find ways to score without running the offense through him.

The 6-foot lead guard has dynamic handles, elite on-court speed, can score it from 3-levels, and has the playmaking ability to find open teammates. Kellogg has been hooping throughout the Clovis Elks Tournament, as he set a Clovis West program single game scoring record on opening night of the Elks with 52 points against West Tracy. In a much closer match-up against Justin Garza of Fresno, Kellogg had his full game on display, from scoring from various spots on the court, making plays for others to score, and showing off the athleticism and bounce on the glass, as he would drop 21 points to go with 8 assists and 6 rebounds to help the Golden Eagles get the 72 to 63 win. Kellogg has elite handles, keeps the dribble alive to probe the defense, uses the hard-pound dribble, the crossover, behind-cross, toss-cross, hesitation, and the spin-move to get his defender off the balance, gets great lift on the jumper, with accuracy from the mid-range to the 3-point line off the bounce with body control to score through contact on the jumper, and is a creative scorer at the basket, with the Euro-step, reverse, and up-and-under lay-ups, along with the floater down the lane or from the baseline. Kellogg has great court vision, has an elite burst of speed to get by his initial defender, finds teammates off the drive and kick pass, as well as finding his young bigs in Castro and Bradford on the dive off the pick and roll action. He does a great job of making tough reads in the air when the defense collapses on him to players finding the dunker spot or the corner 3-ball. Kellogg is a great positional rebounder that looks to push the pace of play in the open court and is tough to contain when the ball is in his hands.

The 6-foot-3 wing/guard has a physical build and good athleticism, excels in the open court, can space the floor from beyond the arc, and is a solid perimeter defender. Hill got off to a hot start, with 7 points and a 3-ball in the first quarter to give the Patriots a 5 point lead going into the 2nd period. Hill would end up with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals in the win over El Capitan of Merced. Hill is active on the boards, has enough handle to push the pace of play in the open court, or outlets the ball to get up the court for easy points in transition. Hill has the moves to create off the dribble, uses the crossover and between-cross to attack the basket off the wing, is a creative scorer around the basket with touch at the rim, and is effective with the 3-ball off the bounce to open up driving lanes. Hill has a long wingspan and active hands to deflect passes, poke the ball out, or jump passing lanes to turn defense to offense routinely. Athletic player that can defend the 1 through 4 position effectively.

The 5-foot-10 shooting guard can catch fire from beyond the arc to open up the court, make plays to get others involved, and has good off ball flow. Pride did all he could to help keep West Tracy close against Merced, as he would score 14 points and connected on 4 threes in the process. Pride has solid handles, uses the crossover and between-cross to keep his defender out of his dribbling space, moves fluidly off the ball to get open looks off the catch, and is accurate with the 3-ball to open up the court. Pride runs the floor well, gets to the open spot on the 3-point line, and gets open for transition jumpers. Good court vision and able to find open teammates off the drive and kick.

The 6-foot-9 forward controls the paint on both ends, is a legit rim protector, can space the floor from beyond the arc, and uses his length to get open to receive passes out of the pick and roll action. Scarborough left Clovis after his sophomore season and transferred to San Joaquin Memorial for his junior season, but returned home for his senior season, and looks to be the senior veteran and interior presences needed for the Cougars, who have some high-level perimeter players to surround him. Scarborough had a solid double-double in the win over Edison of Fresno, going for 10 points and 10 rebounds, along with 2 blocks. Scarborough crashes the boards on both ends, gets easy putbacks off the glass, has the length and height to block/alter shots in the paint, with the strides to close out and contest perimeter shots, runs the floor well in the open court, and has good touch on shots within 15-feet of the cup. Scarborough is effective out of the screener action, as he can dive or pop off the pick and score at the rim or spread the floor with the jumper. I really like his role on this young Cougar team and will be relied upon to contend in the TRAC this season, as expectations are higher than they have been for Clovis High in a while.

The 6-foot-3 wing/guard is a high-level slasher off the perimeter, looks to attack the basket off the bounce, has the length to alter shots and deflect passes, and can spread the floor from beyond the arc. Shelton got it going early for West Tracy, as he would score 8 points in the opening quarter and a team-high 18 points for the game to do all he could to keep his team close, but fell short to a Merced team that plays great team ball and finds the hot hand. Shelton has solid handles, uses the crossover and between-cross to get by his initials defender, can score the ball from 3-levels with good lift and length on the jumper, from the mid-range to the 3-point line off the bounce, and slashes off the ball to get open for buckets around the basket, where he can score with creativity around height. Shelton has a long wingspan, active hands to poke the ball, deflect passes, or jump passing lanes to get out in the open court, where he can use his on-court speed and athleticism to get to the basket.
