The 2025-26 high school basketball season is in full swing with district play opening for many programs this week. Who are the top 4A teams as we enter the Christmas break?

Bartlett is the favorite to win the 4A State Tournament. It is always challenging to make it out of Memphis in 4A, but nobody features the talent or size of Bartlett from top to bottom in 2025-2026.

Brentwood and Bearden are dominating teams, not just winning. Brentwood's success was foretold years ago when the Class of 2026 earned meaningful varsity minutes as sophomores. Then came a superstar high schooler Davis Cochran.

Bearden is very deep and capable of conquering teams even if they endure foul trouble or injuries.

Arlington was tricky to rank as they own a tremendous 56-53 win over Whitehaven. That victory might be THE landmark win statewide. Whitehaven's roster is taller and more powerful than even Bartlett along the frontline and Arlington's Tigers took them down.

Still, the squad is saddled with two losses already, which is a lot for a Top 5ish team in the state.

CONSIDERED:

Cookeville immediately springs to mind. The Cavaliers own four solid wins (Oak Ridge, Smith County, Stewarts Creek, Knoxville Catholic). Of the four Knoxville Catholic is the best victory on their early resume. Two players to watch on Cookeville are [player_tooltip player_id='2575799' first='Walker' last='Redding'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2508422' first='Bo' last='Maxwell']. Ranking Cookeville is tough because they suffered a blowout loss to Brentwood, by nearly 30 points.

Farragut, Maryville, McMinn County, Knoxville Central, and Ravenwood began the season with a series of victories. Each will be watched closely in the next two weeks. Warren County is playing well, but were nipped by Franklin High Tuesday night or they would hold that #10 spot.
