He aggressively looked for gaps to get downhill, and when he got into the heart of the defense, he did a good job making plays by either scoring or finding open teammates. He also showed his ability to initiate the offense when playing on the ball and the understanding of how to move when playing off the ball. He made hustle plays throughout the day as he battled on the glass and got after loose balls.

He is highly skilled for his age with a natural feel for the game and a good feel for creating his offense. He is a lefty with vision and court awareness and understands how to maneuver through and around defenses to get to his spots. He is instinctive on defense and is good at getting steals and turning defense into offense.

James is a small guard in the 8th grade who stands at 5'3, and that is a big question mark as he prepares for life at the next level. What he has to show is that his game is bigger than 5'3. He did just that throughout the weekend, showing himself to be a pesky defender who gave ball-handlers fits as they tried to orchestrate their offense. I mentioned his on-ball defensive presence first, as his play on the defensive end will be one way he finds minutes at the next level. Offensively, he did a good job initiating offense and knocking down the trey ball when opportunities presented themselves. He cannot control his growth, but he can control how he prepares and the passion and grit with which he plays.

Zayd got on my radar in a way many people say can never happen: through his defensive play and his activity on the boards. I have heard so many people say that unless you are scoring a lot of points or taking a lot of shots, you can never get seen, and Zayd proved that argument wrong. He is a versatile defender who showed he could defend inside and out. He has good positional size for his grade level, and even though his defense is ahead of his offense right now, if he stays in the lab building his offensive repertoire, he is going to have a chance to put it all together when the time comes for him to step onto the next level.

He ran the show effectively, creating offense off the bounce and staying composed even when defenses tried to speed him up. When scoring chances presented themselves, he showed he can punish opponents with a reliable jumper both from mid-range and beyond the arc. His patience and IQ give him long-term potential as a true point guard, but he will be faced with the challenge of his size.

Milan is a small guard who is listed to play on and off the ball. He showed the strength of his game off the ball and his readiness in catch-and-shoot situations. He was really good at finding open spaces on the floor and being an open shooter for his teammates, who collapsed the defense with their penetration. Milan did show some budding skills, but in a showcase like this I would have liked to have seen him be more aggressive looking for his offense.
