Late October, we updated the 2028 player rankings. In this feature, the first of the positional breakdown series, the focus is point guards.

As per usual the point guard position is the deepest. Eleven of the Top 20 overall prospects in the Class of 2028 are point guards. That might or might not hold. Most of these guys are worth a college coach evaluation and the top few tiers warrant in-person evaluations.

[player_tooltip player_id='2194623' first='Miles' last='Alexander'] (Cannon County) repeatedly displays insane handles.

J.P. Strong III can play. Last season he debuted with Station Camp but transferred to Davidson Academy as his father accepted the position of head coach. It will be interesting to see Strong III blossom and grow into a leader as a sophomore.

Ranking Risers

PrepHoopsTN Combine All-Star [player_tooltip player_id='2767036' first='Cameron' last='Jackson'] impressed back in June. Great strength. Hard-charging lead guard. Cameron needs to extend his shooting range to affirm Top 40 status the next few years.

[player_tooltip player_id='2570431' first='Jake' last='Neal'] (Baylor School) sparkled in June during BCAT Hoopfest starting for Baylor School. The team was missing key players at the event because senior [player_tooltip player_id='2560261' first='Mantas' last='Paldauskas'] was back in Europe visiting family. A year ago, Neal appeared to be a skilled albeit smallish ball-handler. Though tiny whiz kids are exciting to follow at a young age they often peak in high school because they just do not grow. Neal is much taller now and thanks to his investment in the weight room he can handle his own area and fend off some defenders.

Best Basketball Maturity

[player_tooltip player_id='2194475' first='Braylon' last='Williams'] (Bartlett) started for the 4A juggernaut Bartlett Panthers throughout 2024-2025. More than just start Braylon commanded the offense alongside then-sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2291122' first='Dylan' last='Jones']. He created his own shot and comfortably handled ball pressure. Williams needs to become better and enhancing his teammates' games and that will probably come soon.

[player_tooltip player_id='2570431' first='Jake' last='Neal'] (Baylor School) devoted himself to skill development and the weight room earlier than most hoopers. Generally, players get serious about the sport in their late teens. Neal is an anomaly in this regard.

[player_tooltip player_id='2479971' first='Chris' last='Small'] (Cleveland) got serious about basketball at a young age and former Cleveland Head Coach Reggie Tucker helped cultivate that ambition through hard work. Small makes good decisions and plays with a confidence and poise rare for his age.

Taheim Elohem (Baylor School) is capable of creating shots for himself. Thanks to many starts at Memphis University School last winter Elohem is mature enough to take on added responsibilities.
