Under The Radar Guys From September Fall Ball Thus Far

Fall leagues and preseason showcases in the state of New Jersey have kicked off and are in full effect. So far this fall, the month of September has delivered some standout performances from some under the radar guys that have turned heads over the last few weeks. Having got the chance to stop by a couple of different fall leagues and attend a handful of competitive showcases this month, here's some under the radar guys who've made strong impressions so far during fall ball.    I got the chance to catch a little of Bloomfield's HS Fall League and came away impressed with [player_tooltip player_id='2858268' first='Sean' last='Perrotta']. A physical guard with a powerfully built frame, Perrotta is a two guard who thrives at being strong and efficient off the bounce as a downhill attacker. Perrotta also excels at being a perimeter shot maker off the catch, consistently hunting his shot both in half court offense and in transition. Perrotta is a fundamentally sounded player that possesses good instinctual feel, having made a number of good decisions in the flow of Bloomfield's offense. Perrotta also excels in transition as not only someone that turned defense into offense but also grabbing a rebound off the glass and pushing the break himself.     Another impressive guard out of Bloomfield's backcourt who possesses good poise and plays very under control, AJ Cruz excels at doing a little bit of everything at the guard position. Cruz is capable of knocking down outside shots from three point range, initiating offense and facilitating and even getting in the paint and finishing in traffic. Proving to be a seamless fit offensively, Cruz shows beyond doubt that he is capable of being effective and productive at either guard spot.     An emerging guard out of Seton Hall Prep's backcourt that should provide added depth and confident perimeter shot making, Joshua Moorman impressed with the intangibles he's shown thus far as a shooter this fall. Through multiple showings this fall, Moorman has made defenses pay for late closeouts and losing him on the floor. Moorman has constantly hunted his shot— sprinting to the corners in transition, consistently being shot ready, and relocating without the basketball.     Delivering a solid performance earlier this month at the West Chester Big 64, Kevin Williams showcased the strides he's taken as a perimeter shot maker, knocking down a number of open looks over the course of their matchups a couple of weekends ago. Williams also mixed in some crafty finishes when he was able to attack his defender off the bounce and get to the rim.     Julian Estrella is a confident shooter with a smooth and compact release, consistently proving to be an efficient and dangerous scoring threat from both the perimeter and mid-range. He's more than capable of knocking down shots off the catch from beyond the arc and displayed fluidity off the dribble when defenders ran him off the line, smoothly transitioning into mid-range opportunities. Estrella also showcased his ability to finish strong at the rim, particularly in transition while also mixing in some attacks off dribble drives in the half court.     This past weekend at New Jersey Legacy's Get In Get Out Showcase was my first chance getting to watch Jalen Mehu and came away impressed with his ability to be a nice connective piece as a solid do it all guard. Doing whatever is required of to impact winning, Mehu has proven to be capable of being a strong finisher around the basket, a willing passer that doesn't mind keeping the ball moving, a ferocious rebounder, and even showing flashes as a perimeter shot maker.     Getting eyes on Colin Reese over multiple showings this month, I came away impressed with Colin Reese's ability to be a reliable part of Seton Hall Prep's backcourt. A guard that's provided steady play for Seton Hall Prep so far this fall, Reese has flourished finding ways to impact the game on both ends of the floor. Confident and comfortable in what's expected to be a little bit of a larger role in Seton Hall Prep's rotation, Reese has proven to be a respectable threat from three point range, particularly as a C+S guy. Reese has also demonstrated his ability to use his quickness to get in the paint and make some plays as a decision maker as well.
