Class 1A: Stars to Watch (Part 3)

Haifley was among the tops in the state last season in terms of assists per game, dishing out 7.8 helpers and posting an impressive 2.52 assist-to-turnover ratio. A smart lead guard who sees the floor incredibly well, he's also a talented scorer who uses his speed and handles to his advantage, playing downhill and getting to the rim. He averaged 16.0 points and 3.1 steals to go with his lofty assist totals.     An athletic 6-5 big man who runs the floor well, DeShaw led the Comets in scoring (13.8) and rebounding (8.9) as a junior while shooting just under 54% from the floor. He has soft hands, good touch around the rim, and routinely beats his man down the floor for easy finishes.     Miller isn't a big-time scorer, averaging 8.3 points per game as a junior, but he's an impressive playmaker and passer who dished out 6.5 assists per game and posted an eye-popping 3.2 assist-to-turnover ratio. He's quick, sees the floor well, and is a gifted passer. He'll need to step up a bit more as a scorer as a senior following the graduations of their top three scorers from last season.     A stat-sheet stuffing guard who impacts the game on nearly every possession in some way, shape, or form, Hanson averaged 18.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 3.7 steals per game as a junior, leading the Titans in everything but rebounding and blocks. He can put pressure on opposing defenses with his handles, speed, and vision, and is an adept three-level scorer.     A big guard who uses his size to his advantage as a scorer and playmaker, Schwab averaged 14.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.1 steals per game last season for the Golden Bears. At 6-2, he can see over defenders to find open teammates, and he can take smaller defenders onto the block, where he's comfortable operating as a scorer and a passer.     A quick guard who plays with pace and can get downhill routinely, Jones averaged a team-high 16.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 3.1 steals per game for the Warriors last season. After a bit of a down year last season, North Union could be among the most improved teams in 1A this winter with their top four back, led by Jones.     Cole put together an impressive sophomore campaign for the Knights, leading the team in scoring at 18.6 points per game. At 6-2, he can take smaller defenders onto the block and score, but he's also capable of stretching the floor (35.8 3P%) or taking bigger, slower-footed defenders off the dribble.     Bargfrede is one of the most explosive athletes in the class, a high-flying 6-2 wing who can finish above the rim with authority. He's capable of scoring from all three levels, playing with or without the ball in his hands, and he can defend multiple positions.     Hogrefe is a big scorer, averaging 18.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.5 steals per game as a junior for the Mustangs. He can score from all three levels, posting 41-36-77 shooting splits last season and is a good shooter off both the dribble and the catch.     Winings is a tough, athletic wing with good size and length at 6-4. He uses that length to impact the game on the defensive end, averaging 1.3 steals and 1.4 blocks per game as a junior. He's a versatile scorer who put up 17.7 points per game and posted 55-34-67 shooting splits last season. He can play with the ball in his hands and create shots, but he's best when he's moving without the ball and putting pressure on his defender to keep pace.
