MAYB Nationals: 7th grade D1 Champions

This talented group of players—Nichols, Sanding, Mason, Avery Tyler, and Titus—showed heart, skill, and chemistry on their way to winning the 7th Grade Nationals at MAYB. Each brought a unique strength to the team: Nichols battled fearlessly in the paint despite his size, rebounding and finishing amongst the big men; Sanding turned defense into instant offense with his ability to read passing lanes and ignite fast breaks; Mason controlled the pace with his soft floater and disruptive hands on defense; Avery Tyler delivered highlight finishes through contact with explosive athleticism; and Titus, the floor general, kept everything running smoothly with his high IQ and next-level anticipation.    Nichols is a smaller guard who plays with relentless energy and toughness, consistently punching above his weight class on the court. Despite his size, he's a tenacious rebounder, often outworking taller opponents with sharp instincts, quick positioning, and sheer hustle. What truly sets him apart is his fearlessness when attacking the paint—he doesn't shy away from contact and has a knack for finishing through traffic. Whether it's a crafty scoop layup or an acrobatic finish, Nichols routinely finds ways to score amongst the trees, making him a dynamic and gritty presence on both ends of the floor.     Sanding is a savvy guard known for his exceptional anticipation and quick hands on the defensive end. He reads the passing lanes with precision, often jumping in at just the right moment to create steals and disrupt the flow of the opposing offense. Once he gets a takeaway, he's immediately pushing the pace, turning defense into offense with explosive speed. Sanding thrives in transition, where his vision and agility allow him to either finish strong at the rim or set up teammates for easy buckets. His ability to spark fast breaks makes him a constant threat and a catalyst for momentum-shifting plays.     Mason is a crafty small guard who uses his skill and IQ to make a big impact on the game. Offensively, he's known for his smooth floater—a go-to weapon that allows him to score over bigger defenders in the lane without needing to get all the way to the rim. His touch and timing make it a reliable option, especially in tight spaces. On the defensive end, Mason brings intensity and quick hands, often poking the ball loose or disrupting dribbles to create turnovers. His combination of offensive finesse and defensive pressure makes him a valuable two-way contributor.     Avery Tyler is an explosive athlete who thrives at the rim, using his strength and body control to finish through contact with ease. Whether it's in transition or attacking off the dribble, he rises above defenders with power and confidence, making him a constant threat around the basket. What sets Avery apart is his ability to absorb contact without losing balance or focus, often converting tough and-ones that shift momentum. His aggressive finishing style not only energizes his team but also puts pressure on opposing defenses to stay physical and alert every possession.     Titus is a high-IQ player who consistently outthinks his opponents and controls the game with a cerebral approach. He sees plays develop before they happen, always positioning himself in the right spot on both ends of the floor. Whether he's making the extra pass, rotating early on defense, or exploiting mismatches, Titus plays like he's 10 steps ahead—reading the game with rare clarity. His decision-making is sharp, his timing is impeccable, and he elevates the players around him with his leadership and vision.
