Late July, we updated the 2028 player rankings. In this feature, the first of the positional breakdown series, the focus is centers.

Get ready to hear rumblings that JP2 has a new center and then gradually learn how important that young man is to the team's balance. By the time the playoffs arrive [player_tooltip player_id='2856293' first='Logan' last='Williams'] will be a household name throughout mid-TN and, as we have seen, playing in big games alongside [player_tooltip player_id='1560719' first='Trey' last='Pearson'] tends to go very, very well.

The ascendancy of [player_tooltip player_id='2856293' first='Logan' last='Williams'] will be swift largely because of where it will occur, on a State Championship-caliber team. Right now, Logan is 6-foot-7 and the guy is ox-strong at about 240-pounds. He provides JP2 with a very different post option than rim-runner Kamden Days did.

What is certain is that Williams will rebound at a high level immediately. His strength and size are not common throughout their district. The team does feature some elite slashers and penetrators though and it will be interesting to see how the coaching staff plans to keep Williams around the rim and also away from Wiggins' drives, to cite one example.

[player_tooltip player_id='2841498' first='Luke' last='C. Smith'] dropped in for the PrepHoopsTN Combine late June and left a surefire PrepHoopsTN Combine All-Star. Luke will be a dominant high school player for the next three years. The ceiling is nebulous though as much growth will take place in the coming years. Smith already shows off soft hands and eagerly posts up. He is not the modern big that desperately wants to be a perimeter player. Luke will be a big that plays big. He can shoot off of the catch too. He has a tantalizing upside. And he loves to embrace challenges.

[player_tooltip player_id='2791584' first='Elijah' last='Porter'] (Rhea County) is an important piece of the next very good Rhea County core. Two years ago, Rhea County won 28 games. Last year they won 21 and picked up just a single district win. [player_tooltip player_id='2791579' first='Casen' last='Hennessee'], [player_tooltip player_id='2791584' first='Elijah' last='Porter'], and the Class of 2028 are certain to be thrust into the spotlight THIS winter, ready or not. What Porter gives is similar to [player_tooltip player_id='2856293' first='Logan' last='Williams']...power and strength. Porter will not get nudged off of the block. Unlike Williams though, Porter is not going to get to the free throw line much.
