Lets take a closer look at Pine View High School.

If you have not been paying attention this summer Pine View was among a few teams in the state that decided to take a chance and travel around the country and try to improve and along the way they stated to make some noise. Coach Pat Amico has done a realy good job building this program since he took over a few years ago and has been able to get the most out of his players. With that said Pine View made quite the impression playing in the qualifying games to make to it Section 7 and not only beating a few teams a long the way but they have improved as a group. In the past 3 years they have gone from 6-16 to 15-10 to 17-9. Is there a 20 win season on the horizon? That is a question that is hard to answer because all the schools in St.George have been good and that including Crimson Cliffs and Dixie.

Three Headed Monster

Pine View will be lead by a trio of seniors. Led by 6'6 senior [player_tooltip player_id='1960175' first='Jelani' last='Odjegba'] (who might be the best player in 4A.) The rising senior lead the Panthers to an Elite 8 showing last year and was also Region 9 defensive MVP. Jelani had a huge summer including helping the Panthers qualify for Section 7. He is a D1 NJCAA player for sure but should have a ton of 4 year school chasing.

6'5 senior [player_tooltip player_id='2538801' first='Caleb' last='Schmitt'] led the Panthers in scoring this summer. Schmitt was second team all region last year. The 3 level scorer is the perfect complement to Jelani on the wing. Schmitt has the positional size to play at the next level .

Lastly, 6'0 PG [player_tooltip player_id='2947192' first='Cooper' last='Ranson'] is the head of the snake that keeps the group going. Cooper has the ability to make 3's in bunches. He really went crazy against Southern California power Santa Margarita as he went off for 11-three-pointers.

New Comer to Watch

The Panthers keep adding pieces and this is a player that could easily gain the experience needed to take over the following year and that is [player_tooltip player_id='2947179' first='Ryker' last='Sommers']. This summer he has been averaging about 10 PPG. This has given Pine View and additional scorer that they can depend on.

Overview

Pine View is likely to play a more uptempo style of play and we fully expect them to increase their team scoring. Look for them to be a 62+ PPG team this coming season and they could also have 4 players in double digits this coming year. If PVHS was to play the same exact schedule I think that they could be a 20 win team and make a deeper run in the playoffs. Thanks to Coach Pat Amico for providing information on his team for this up-coming season.
