Texas Future Circuit Kickstarter Showcase: Tuesday's Top "Dawgs"

Last week kicked off one of the newer circuits coming to Houston, the Texas Future Circuit. Locked and loaded with good matchups, this event took place in Katy on Tuesday and Wednesday and definitely made its mark. Organizer Alex Holt did a great job promoting this showcase and it was a great venue with good hospitality and high competition between players and teams alike. Let's take a look at some players who stood out to me on Tuesday and made their mark as some of the top "dawgs" at the event.    Daryus was the most athletic and explosive athlete I was able to watch at the showcase on Tuesday, and he had several rim rattling dunks to help Klein pull out a victory over Stafford. Tasby has the ability to hit jump shots in the midrange and under the basket, even with contested defense. Daryus also is one of the more impressive defenders I have had my eyes on over the past year and a half, forcing the ballhandler into turnovers and quick fastbreak opportunities. His transfer to Klein from Mayde Creek definitely will not go unnoticed, especially in Houston.     Jaylan dominated in Spring's game against La Porte on Tuesday afternoon and he constantly was able to maneuver his way to open shots and had several good passes helping to create for teammates on the wing and in the paint. Tran has great court awareness when bringing up the ball on offense and good IQ when playmaking and moving the ball around. Tran has been on my radar since about two months ago when I first saw him at an AAU tournament and I will continue to keep my eye on him as the grassroots season progresses.     Gotti was one of the more stellar all-around guards on Tuesday as he showcased a side of his game that I had never seen in the past and his assists were on point against Spring. He was good at using a variety of dribble moves to penetrate the defense into the lane, make them collapse, and then hit the cutter or shooter with a precision pass for a good look. Mack uses his wingspan on defense to play passing lanes and capitalize on the opposition's turnovers. He has definitely gained a quicker first step since last year and great to see him add more playmaking to his arsenal for this upcoming season.     James was one of more unknown prospects coming into the showcase, so I had no idea what to expect from him during the event, but he definitely made me a fan with his hard-nosed play on both sides of the ball. He was physical on defense, displayed versatility and athleticism grabbing rebounds and blocking shots, as well as hitting open shots. James is explosive off the dribble heading towards the basket and has a knack for finishing through hard contact. Cam'Ron after this weekend has definitely made my list of the more underrated 2027 wings/forwards in Houston.     Tray was a super prolific shooter during Westfield's game against Cy Lakes on the first day. Carmouche can create for himself well off the dribble and uses his big man to perfection with the pick and roll, getting enough space off the screen to pull up and hit a clutch jumper from deep range. Tray has lightning quick speed to beat opposing defenders down the floor when facing a press and has good vision when hitting the outlet man on fastbreaks. Despite being the shortest man on the court, Tray also shows one of the biggest "go till you can't go anymore" attitudes on defense and will stay pushing ballhandlers into constant momentum-changing turnovers.
