June 17-18 I watched the third ever Section-7 Qualifier. There were 96 teams in 6 pools of 16 teams each.

The 6 winners advanced to the official Section-7 June 20-22 versus some of the top teams on the West Coast.

I watched a bunch of full and half of some of the games. I obviously did not watch every team and when I watched, I am basing it on that performance and on the teams success combined.

Congrats to Arcadia, Centennial, Chaparral, Cienega, Dysart & Salpointe Catholic for earning spots into the weekends Section-7 Tournament.

5th Team Standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='2884375' first='Tayshaun' last='Ambruster'] Paradise Honors

A newcomer from Texas made an imprint on the team immediately. The lefty is a good three point shooter and plays with next level pace to the game. He can burst or change speeds and gets downhill showing a lot of promise.

[player_tooltip player_id='2883787' first='Turner' last='Armstrong'] Coolidge (Pictured)

A scoring point guard with an IQ off the charts. The incoming freshman sees the game at a different pace then most. He will throw the up the court ropes, find cutters and dump it off easily. He shoots the three and will be one to watch for four years.

[player_tooltip player_id='2146237' first='Jeremiah' last='Haslerig'] Centennial

A long bigger guard or wing forward has length for days. He seems to always bother his opponents on defense and collect steals with his twitch and wingspan. He is great on the break and takes long strides to the basket.

[player_tooltip player_id='2883775' first='Dylan' last='Hayes'] ALA Ironwood

A newcomer for me is a transfer from Poston Butte. He has great size and is highly skilled. He will rebound the ball at a good rate and block shots. He runs the floor well and will hit the open three with a nice looking stroke. Once he fills in, watch out.

[player_tooltip player_id='2672883' first='Oryon' last='Huayhualla'] Coconino

A strong power forward is a cerebral southpaw who is a great passer. He sees the court like a point forward and can score it with perimeter jumpers and has advanced post footwork with multiple counter moves to score.

[player_tooltip player_id='2338408' first='Kolby' last='Hoyer'] Eastmark

A scoring point guard is quick with the ball. He has a stronger upper body with plus court vision slipping it into a tight space. He has a very quick burst to the basket and plays hard on both ends of the court. He is one of their senior leaders this year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1323297' first='Kaleo' last='Mills'] Paradise Honors

A long wing who is a face up shooter. He has a smooth three point stroke and he is starting to turn the corner. He is a good rebounder and has some vertical springs to leap up and score over the defenders.

[player_tooltip player_id='2825310' first='Ryan' last='Morris'] Seton Catholic

A top sophomore highly skilled shooter had a good showing. He gets the ball out of his hands easily with a picture perfect three point stroke. Once he releases you know he is one of those that can be relied on to knock them down. He will have a lot on his shoulders next year but is a perfect complement to Fauske this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='2280453' first='Iyzaya' last='Soto'] McClintock

One of the top three point shooters in 5A. He comes with elite range from well past the arc. He will also burst to the basket with quick drives with plus body control to the rim to score and moves the ball smartly to open shooters.
