Late April, we updated the 2026 player rankings. In this feature the focus is shooting guards.

Big-bodied wings

For all of the guys ranked above nothing is more important in 2025 than their LIVE Evaluation Period performances. College coaches are able to watch them play in-person a handful of weeks, including the mid-May weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id='1277259' first='Cam' last='Swearengen'], the #1 shooting guard in the class, kind of projects as a small forward. The State Champion played the "second-big" to [player_tooltip player_id='2166129' first='Alexander' last='Leeth'] throughout the winter. He is an exceptional defensive rebounder. The senior-to-be can guard virtually any position at the high school level and might be able to guard four positions at the college level. Swearengen runs with MoKan 17u.

Two-time State Champion. PrepHoopsTN Combine Co-MVP. State Tournament MVP. [player_tooltip player_id='2238576' first='Derrick' last='Roberson'] earned plenty of awards along the way and he is still not done. The 6-foot-6 wing plays with good energy and handles like a guard. Sure, the guy is not a finished product, but his capacity to improve is there and Roberson runs with the [program_tooltip program_id='2078775' first='Tennessee' last='Tigers'], so you know his recruitment will be strong.

Projects

A few raw 3-guards exist in the Class of 2026. Ideally, the spring of your junior year you should be turning the corner from potential to production. Sure, a college coach will recruit a 6-foot-10 guy with athleticism and strength even if he is raw, but these dudes are not 6-foot-10.

[player_tooltip player_id='2274016' first='Waymon' last='West'] (Riverdale) can do a few things with the dribble. His height makes him dangerous at the 4A level in Tennessee, but to be the college scorer that he can West needs to improve his jumper, bulk up, and begin to do more of the little things that lead to winning.

[player_tooltip player_id='2202819' first='Kamden' last='Murray'] (West Creek) is a tenacious rebounder and finishes around the rim, but probably needs a more reliable jumper to play a college "2".

Sharpshooters

[player_tooltip player_id='2296673' first='Wilson' last='Luton'] (Knox Webb) shoots it with the best of them. The senior-to-be dropped 3-6 three-pointers in the State Tournament and ultimately scored on half of his shots (5-10 FG). [player_tooltip player_id='2296673' first='Wilson' last='Luton'] earned All-Region Honorable Mention. Because Webb featured a ball-dominant point guard in 2024-2025 Luton was unable to refine his slashing and ball-handling. Those two skills might be there, but Wilson has yet to show them to evaluators. His 17u season is important as well as his senior season.

[player_tooltip player_id='2677420' first='Lleyton' last='Sherman'] (Summertown) delivered the best single display of shooting we witnessed all regular season. Sherman is undersized as a "2" beyond high school, but if you can shoot the way he can you can probably find a home.

Carter Ezell started for Centennial High as a sophomore and those were lean times. This year CHS enjoyed perhaps the biggest upset in middle Tennessee when they eliminated PrepHoopsTN #1 Christian Brown and his Franklin Admirals. Carter knocks down three-pointers often, both for high school and AAU teams.

Colton Pevahouse finished his junior year with 54 made three-pointers. His efficiency was not the best (33% 3's), but that will improve.

There is not a more natural scorer in 2026 than Cade Murphy. The 6-foot-5 guard took an enormous scoring burden this season for Knoxville Catholic and delivered, scoring 22.1 points per. Murphy fluttered in 62 three-pointers along the way.
