. A high-academic performer, the tough 6-foot guard looked around for what he felt would be the best fit both on and off the basketball floor, keeping all of his options open. As it turned out, Oberlin caught his eye and after making the right connections with the coaching staff, Manfredi will be off to Ohio for his college basketball having committed to the Yeomen.
“I was looking for a strong liberal arts school and I flew out to Oberlin and met the coach and the players,” Manfredi said. “Coach (Shiva) Senthil was very organized and seemed to have a great plan for each recruit. I liked all of the players and the facilities were really nice. It is a four year commitment. I am considering law school and they had a great acceptance rate into strong law schools.”
The match wasn’t just all about Manfredi’s academic pursuits; the Storm senior also liked the fit on the court as well. “They are a pretty big team and the coach was telling me that they are great at putting pressure at the rim,” Manfredi said. “I see myself fitting in as I’m a good outside shooter and shooting is one of their weaknesses. I think I need to focus on becoming a solid ball handler, especially as a small guard and becoming a great two foot finisher.”
The opportunity to play at the next level comes partially as a reward for a banner season for Manfredi, one in which he averaged a team-high 14.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists earning First Team All-IMC and Second Team 5A All-State honors. It was a year that was filled with memories he’ll never forget.
“I think what I’ll remember most from this past season is just all the times in the locker room and other times hanging out with the team,” Manfredi said. “It was a really great group. These last two years at Summit especially have been really special, being able to be a part of two state championship runs.”
Our congratulations go out to Manfredi and his family on his commitment.
