NERR Unsigned Senior Showcase Standouts: Part 4

NERR held an event on Monday, April 21st, at Emmanuel College in Boston, MA for seniors and post grads who are currently unsigned to a college roster. There was tons of talent in the gym and a plethora of coaches from all levels on hand to watch. He showed some flashes of incredible finishing at the rim and craft to get his way into the paint, though he was out of control at times and is definitely still learning his own body. The shot is a work in progress, but he has solid fundamentals and I could see it improving with time and practice. Diakite strikes me as a late bloomer who could really put it all together while in college; I would guess that D2 programs are interested in him.     Comferford impressed with his combination of size, athleticism, and shooting. The 6-foot-5, strong bodied combo-guard moves very well for his size/build can guard multiple positions as a result of his coordination and versatility. The CATS Academy senior probably didn't get too much press on the B team this season, but there are certainly a good number of D3 colleges that should be interested in Comerford, as it's not easy to find guys his size that can shoot it and play within a system. I could even imagine some D2 schools taking a look.     When I first saw Rosa step on the court, I thought he would be overwhelmed by the strength and physicality at the event; he's only 6-foot-1 and very skinny. However, as soon as he started handling the ball, the opposite proved to be true. He has an amazing off hand and is significantly stronger than he looks, because he was super sturdy with the ball and was able to hold his line way better than I thought he would -- he's even willing to be a little feisty with his body, and he takes contact very well. Rosa also strokes it from three and has a really nice feel for making the right pass at the right time. He should be a D3 player.     O'Brien is another guy who just plays the right way, even in a showcase environment with lots of selfishness and bad shots. The 5-foot-11 senior is so comfortable with the ball in his hands and can handle pressure for 94 feet quite well. He was consistently able to use his start-and-stop dribble package to get paint touches and kickouts for easy three-point shots, and I was also impressed with his willingness to throw the kick-ahead pass in transition, even if it didn't earn him an assist. Height will be O'Brien's limiting factor recruitment-wise, but he could play D3 hoops somewhere.     Zack looks the part of a basketball player at the next level. He's 6-foot-7, well built, and moves quite smoothly for his size. Offensively, he gets tons of lift on his jumper and can knock it down consistently from anywhere on the court; the combination of his size and jumping ability makes his jump shot incredibly difficult to contest. He also makes extra passes and moves well without the ball. Defensively, he plays hard and can guard 1-4 (and even some 5) as a result of his size and strength. I would imagine some scholarship schools will take a look at Zack, though low D2 or D3 might be the level that would fit him the best.
