ND Attack 17U: Team Preview

In this Preview piece, Prep Hoops Dakotas (PHD) focuses on a squad from NoDak. We are talking all things [program_tooltip program_id='2075723' first='ND' last='Attack'] 17U!   [program_tooltip program_id='2075723' first='ND' last='Attack'] 17U has played in one tournament so far this season. This past weekend, Attack hooped at the Comets Shootout in St. Cloud. They finished the weekend with a quality 3-1 record. Attack picked up wins over Midwest Kings, West Central Warriors, and Comets Kuhlman. [player_tooltip player_id='1632692' first='Elijah' last='Robinson'] played very well, had a splashy 35-point game, and emerged as Attack's go-to guy. [player_tooltip player_id='1632740' first='Jayson' last='Schlenker'] showed out as well. On offense, he did a nice job of keeping the defense off balance a[program_tooltip program_id='2075723' first='ND' last='Attack']ing the basket. On defense, Schlenker set the tone. Jayson had to defend much bigger opponents, he held his own exceptionally well, and he was productive on the glass.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> I thought our whole team really turned it on the defense and on the boards considering we are extremely undersized compared to out opponents. He has the length to be effective on the inside and the shooting ability to be a threat from the outside. He also has shot-blocking capability on the defensive side."   #1 [player_tooltip player_id='1632740' first='Jayson' last='Schlenker'] - 6'0 BCN - "Jayson played a huge role in BCN's success this year. He is a solid guard. Strong, can hit the outside shot, aggressive on defense, and sees the floor well. I like his game a lot."   #2 [player_tooltip player_id='1632692' first='Elijah' last='Robinson'] - 5'11 Midway-Minto - "Love the way Eli and Ezra play. Eli is a good shooter - relentless on defense, and has speed and quickness. He sees the floor well, and has a non-stop motor."   #4 [player_tooltip player_id='1511062' first='Rocklin' last='Beaudrie'] - 5'10 Westhope-Newburg - "Rocklin is a defensive stopper and an absolute defensive sparkplug. Rocklin also showed a lot of offensive upswing this year for the State B runner-up Sioux team."   #12 [player_tooltip player_id='1632700' first='Ezra' last='Robinson'] - 5'11 Midway-Minto - "Very similar to his brother in game. Ezra is also relentless on the defensive side of things, and he and Rocklin were a good duo to get steals and cause havoc last season. Ezra improved his offensive shooting this year as well."   #14 [player_tooltip player_id='2255562' first='Drew' last='Nitschke'] - 6'3 Edgeley - "Drew will stand out as we don't have a lot of "bigs" on our team. Drew is not a true 5 player - but is strong inside and can get to the rim in the post position. Drew has strength and aggressiveness, and I see him being one of our leading rebounders."   #15 [player_tooltip player_id='1632705' first='Joe' last='Bear'] - 5'8 Watford City - "Joe is a high-energy kid. He has the ability to hit the outside shot, and to make the big play."   #21 [player_tooltip player_id='2816325' first='Colby' last='Maus'] - 6'0 Lisbon - "Colby is new to me this year. The rest of the mentioned players have been with our program. We will see what Colby can bring to the team and what his role will be within the first couple of tournaments. I've seen some good things from Colby in practice."   #22 [player_tooltip player_id='1921182' first='Gavin' last='Parnow'] - 6'1 Hettinger-Scranton - "Gavin had a good year this year on his HS team. Gavin has a knack of finding the basket both inside and out. Gavin is a sneaky good rebounder, and doesn't mind getting his hands dirty on the defensive side of things."   #32 [player_tooltip player_id='1809393' first='Chase' last='Evenson'] - 6'2 Northern Cass - "Chase is another kid that is new this year. It will be fun to see how these guys meld together after being on separate teams for many years."   PHD: How often will your team practice/work out?    "We haven't had many chances to get together this season so far. We have only had one official practice. I would like to get these guys together as much as possible, but it is hard with the distance between everyone."   PHD: What are your goals for this team?    "Our main goal is to help these guys improve their individual and team games as the season progresses. We want to see player development. With three coaches with a lot of experience guiding this team, I think they can benefit a lot from that different perspective. Our end goal is to see each one of these guys lead their teams in the Winter to a lot of success. Nothing makes me happier than seeing these guys have success with their HS teams during their season!"   PHD: What are a couple of strengths of your team?   "I think that we will be a very aggressive defensive team. We have a lot of guys on this squad who were some, if not the best, defensive players on their HS Squad. I think that we will be able to make plays on that side of the ball. A lot of these guys have played together in some capacity, so just that familiarity with each other, I think will become a strength as the season goes on."   PHD: What style will you play on offense?    "We will have a lot of motion-spacing-movement-cutting in our offense. We are not overly big - so we will have to have a lot of action on the offensive end to get good looks at the basket. We also want to get out and go in transition as much as possible."   PHD: What brand of defense will you play?    "We will be man-to-man mostly - but will throw in a zone look to try and force turnovers."   PHD: Who are a couple of underrated players on the team?    "I'm going to be honest - I think our entire team is underrated and probably going to be overlooked. We don't have any big names that stand out. With the exception of the Robinson boys and [player_tooltip player_id='1632740' first='Jayson' last='Schlenker'], I don't think any of our guys received All-District or All-Region. So it will be interesting to see which guys really step up and take a lead on this team!"   PHD: What is your team's identity?    "Grit"   "We will never give up and we will be aggressive."   PHD: Any last comments?   "Very excited to coach these guys this season, and very excited to be coaching with exceptional veteran coaches Shane Robinson and Allen Olsen! I think it is going to be a great year, and I'm looking forward to being a student of the game as much as I am looking forward to being a teacher of it!"
