Horace Hawks: Season Review

The ND high school basketball season is in the rearview mirror and we have moved into the club/grassroots season. However, we are taking a look back at the prep season to celebrate and highlight the local teams/players.   We are looking at a Class AA squad, the Hawks from Horace!   The Hawks had a historic and milestone season. Horace went undefeated at home, took 2nd Place in the EDC regular season, were ranked as high as #3 in the State Polls, had a player named All-State for the first time ever, had two players go over 1,000 career points, and many other noteworthy performances & accolades.   The season did not end the way the Hawks had hoped. They were upset in the EDC Regional Tourney and did not make the State Tournament. Despite that, Horace had a memorable season and they will be one of the elite AA squads in 2025-26. Look out for the Hawks! He will be missed next year. Received our most improved player award. 2nd in the EDC in blocks. 2nd on the team in steals. Had several big games. Versatile defender, rebounded the ball well. Looking forward to his improvement heading into his senior year."   #20 [player_tooltip player_id='1798699' first='Jett' last='Collins'] – "Played a half of JV all year but was very productive in some varsity games. Hitting 3's, spacing us out, crashing the glass for O boards and coming off the bench being tasked with guarding one of the opposing team's best players."   #23 [player_tooltip player_id='1651918' first='Brett' last='Livingston'] – "Starting 5 man, rebounded the ball at a high level all year. Had some huge rebounding games, blocked a ton of shots. Impressive motor, high ceiling, started to play above the rim this season. "Overachieved but disappointed at the same time."   PHD: Do you have any fun memories you want to share with us?   "Defending our home court. We didn't win a home game last season and went 11-0 at home this year."   PHD: How did your team overcome adversity?   "This year was another year of growth. We are still trying to build our foundation. We were viewed as “losers” and didn't have the respect of other programs, yet. This year, we took a step in the right direction and learned how to compete."   PHD: What are a few things your team improved on?   "Shot selection, knowing time/score/momentum, how to string together complete practices and complete games at times."   PHD: Who are some of the role players that stood out to you?   "[player_tooltip player_id='1651918' first='Brett' last='Livingston'] – Led the EDC in shots blocked and rebounding. [player_tooltip player_id='1651920' first='Owen' last='Terras'] – Carved out a starting spot and had some monster games. [player_tooltip player_id='1541297' first='Kaiden' last='Peterson'] came back from injury and became a huge contributor, spacing us out on offense, one of the best shooters in the EDC."   PHD: Can you talk about your seniors?   "[player_tooltip player_id='2538772' first='Cole' last='Summerville']: The ultimate teammate and glue guy! We will miss his jokes, his team-first attitude, and how epic he was on the bench during the bench mob celebrations."   "[player_tooltip player_id='1189404' first='Brady' last='Westphal']: We will miss his leadership, his competitive nature, and of course all of the threes he cashed in for us during his time as a Hawk."   PHD: Who are some up-and-comers to look out for in the future?   "[player_tooltip player_id='1680906' first='Aiden' last='Green'], [player_tooltip player_id='1651918' first='Brett' last='Livingston'], [player_tooltip player_id='1651920' first='Owen' last='Terras'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1651919' first='Ryder' last='Majkrzak'] were all sophomores this year that got some playing time and will be back competing for starting spots the next TWO YEARS!"   PHD: Who was your best defensive player?   "[player_tooltip player_id='1651918' first='Brett' last='Livingston'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1680906' first='Aiden' last='Green'] received our Defensive Player of the Year award at the team banquet. Both guarding different positions, of course."   PHD: Who was your top interior player?   "[player_tooltip player_id='1651918' first='Brett' last='Livingston'] was our anchor inside. We are still working on getting him post touches on offense, but he set the game high record and season record for rebounding this year."   PHD: Any last comments/thoughts on the season?   "Heading into this season, I honestly thought we had a chance to finish in the middle of the pack around the 4/5 seed during the regular season. As the season progressed, I was pleasantly surprised at how we adjusted our goals. I'm very proud of this group for turning around a program that went 5-19 the season before to finishing 18-6. Although we didn't reach our ultimate goal of making it to the State Tournament, I think that will serve as motivation for us this summer, leading into next season. Love this group and I look forward to our continued growth and future successes."
