Courageously, [player_tooltip player_id='2393889' first='Lincoln' last='Tummel'] took a challenged three-pointer late in the third quarter and made it to extend the lead to nine points, 45-36. Though [player_tooltip player_id='2798064' first='Bryson' last='Maddux'] (Clinton) scored five quick points in rebuttal, Tummel injected his game into the moment.

Hosting perennial power Bearden Tuesday night, Oak Ridge needed ferocity and toughness. Malik was largely a post defender with only minimal offensive impact, but late in the third quarter Howard collected a defensive rebound. After Bearden denied the guards, Malik elected to dribble up the floor on a semi-fastbreak. He crossed a man out high and attempted to dunk on the run. Fouled as he rose. Senior teammate Garrett Giles chest-bumped the burly sophomore conveying respect for the play.
