There were plenty of big moments from semifinals round of the TSSAA Division 1 Boys' State Tournaments.

Here's what happened from the first half of the day:

Points were needed

Defending Class 1A champ Chattanooga Prep needed a spark offensively after a sloppy first half where the Sentinels shot 8 for 19 from the field. Humboldt played physical defense for four quarters, pushing Chattanooga Prep to make adjustments. Demarion Bowman was a hero in the third quarter, scoring 8 points to give the Sentinels life. Six of those points were from 3, and both came early in the third quarter, which Chattanooga Prep won, 19-15.

In the 65-59 win, Bowman finished with 15 points on 5 of 8 shooting.

”In practice, we work on those kind of moments. Coach (Christian Collins) has prepared us for those moments,” Bowman said.

Bowman wasn't the only one who provided a spark for the Sentinels. Austin Jones scored 10 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter. The sophomore's stat line was……solid. Jones finished with 9 rebounds and 7 assists on 4 of 5 shooting.

Junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='2238576' first='Derrick' last='Roberson'] was the other double-digit scorer for Chattanooga Prep. The 6-6 forward added 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 blocks on 6 of 10 shooting.

All three players had to contribute and help the Sentinels withstand each scoring punch the Vikings threw.

Now, it's onto Saturday for a Chattanooga Prep team looking to go back-to-back in 1A.

Efficient performances

Junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='2426391' first='Alex' last='Morgan'] put Hillcrest in the Class A state title game Friday morning with an efficient performance on the offensive end in the team's 44-41 win over Wayne County. The 6-0 guard had 18 points on 7 of 13 shooting. Morgan was making shots from different areas on the court and didn't have a problem getting into the lane in iso situations.

The Wildcats' junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='1959189' first='Cayman' last='Camfield'] was difficult to deal with in the post. The 6-4 forward has good touch around the rim. Camfield also had an efficient day, finishing with 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists on 6 of 10 shooting.

Couldn't deal with him

Tyner Academy didn't have an answer for senior forward [player_tooltip player_id='2611750' first='Kasen' last='Buie'], who finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds in a 59-47 win to reach the Class 2A state title game. Buie had great looks all game at the rim. He moves very well up and down the floor. Buie's footwork is good. He's a good option to have when it comes to spacing the floor. Buie can make elbow jumpers. The Mustangs, who are currently 34-0, moved the basketball exceptionally well throughout the contest, recording 15 assists on 18 made field goals. Buie was getting to his spots and cashed in each time.

Balance attack

The defending 3A state champ Alcoa cruised to a win on Friday, thumbing Jackson County, 59-38, to keep its hopes alive for a 3-peat. [player_tooltip player_id='2281190' first='Jibriel' last='Koko'] led the Tornadoes with 21 points on 9 of 11 shooting. [player_tooltip player_id='2281200' first='Jay' last='Kirk'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2333265' first='Condis' last='Cherry'] both finished with 12. The telling of events on Saturday was the team's defense. Guys were swarming to the basketball and did a great job communicating with one another. Alcoa forced 23 turnovers and turned them into 22 points. The Tornadoes scored 42 of their points in the paint. It's Loretto vs Alcoa on Saturday for the 3A crown.
