WVCAT Championship: Calvary Baptist vs Greater Beckley Christian

This tournament is one of the best kept little secrets in WV hoops but word is starting to travel and quickly, just how much talent is in this league and how entertaining these games are. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In a game where we saw [player_tooltip player_id='2324785' first='Bryson' last='Childers'] have a career performance, the GBC squad still prevailed despite taking every punch Calvary could dish out. The game started as fast as anticipated with a [player_tooltip player_id='2457787' first='Matthew' last='DeGroff'] runner over a GBC defender. Quickly [player_tooltip player_id='2241522' first='Drew' last='Fitzwater'] plays rim runner and does an amazing job making an athletic play with a catch and no dribble fast break finish. Meanwhile still in the first quarter, Childers made two great moves from the post scoring on both. [player_tooltip player_id='2425396' first='Jovante' last='Spencer'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2241525' first='Averyk' last='Woodson'] both got in on the scoring early as well as Calvary's [player_tooltip player_id='2449682' first='Owen' last='Good']. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This game was back and forth with everything you'd expect form a championship game with two teams playing at a high level. So many talented players and good storylines here to mention. Woodson had just came back from injury and immediately contributes with some good outside shooting finishing 2-3 from the field and all from behind the arc. While [player_tooltip player_id='2425396' first='Jovante' last='Spencer'] had a solid night going 5-8 from the field with 14 points. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The story of the game of course was 6'7" center and monster in the paint, [player_tooltip player_id='2241522' first='Drew' last='Fitzwater']. He was as good as advertised and delivered the tough buckets and rebounds when it counted. Fitzwater recorded 21 points on 8-9 shooting but also a game high 17 rebounds which proved to be a difference maker in the end. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Calvary was led by [player_tooltip player_id='2324785' first='Bryson' last='Childers'] 35 points while [player_tooltip player_id='2449682' first='Owen' last='Good'] ended up with 10 and [player_tooltip player_id='2457787' first='Matthew' last='DeGroff'] 6.
