The Texas UIL basketball playoffs are officially underway, and the bi-district round did not disappoint. From dominant scoring outbursts to game-changing defensive efforts, this round was packed with high-energy matchups and standout individual performances. A dynamic three-level scorer, he displayed a tight handle and shiftiness, allowing him to create his own shot off the dribble. His step-backs, crossovers, and hesitations consistently generated space, and he scorched the nets with a quick-release jumper that made him a threat from beyond the arc, on or off the ball, even under heavy contests. Colbert's tough shot-making ability stood out, he could hit contested jumpers, finish off one or two feet, and knock down deep threes with confidence. His playmaking instincts were equally impactful as he balanced an aggressive scoring mindset with smart facilitation, getting his teammates involved when needed. Colbert capped off his dominant performance with a 30-point, 10-rebound, 4-assist stat line.     A dynamic sharpshooter, [player_tooltip player_id='1778917' first='Zayson' last='Salanoa'] played within the flow of the game, catching and firing from the left wing with poise and precision. His ability to elevate over defenders with a textbook follow-through made his shot nearly unblockable. With steady improvement throughout the season, he showed all the makings of a future catch-and-shoot specialist from three-point range. Whether off the ball or in transition, he was lethal when given space. His quick release allowed him to fire before defenders could react, and his shooting mechanics remained consistent under pressure, leading to elite efficiency.     A fast-paced lefty who impacted the outcome with relentless effort and tenacity on both ends of the floor. Halliburton never gave up on a possession, constantly hustling and competing until the final whistle. His ability to save his team from giving up fastbreak layups or open shots made him a defensive asset. His ball pressure was relentless, making life miserable for opponents by forcing turnovers, cutting off driving lanes, and disrupting offensive sets.     Sanderson stood out early-on as a high-IQ player who excelled at picking apart zone defenses with his quickness and footwork, constantly finding ways to get into the lane and create scoring opportunities.     [player_tooltip player_id='2557089' first='Eric' last='Salazar'] displayed great anticipation, seeing openings and scoring opportunities ahead of time. His ability to read defenses allowed him to beat closeouts with one-dribble pull-ups or quick, contested catch-and-shoot jumpers.     [player_tooltip player_id='2458771' first='Jaylen' last='Fenner'] wasted no time putting his athleticism on display, immediately making an impact as a backdoor lob threat, delivering the first points of the game. Defensively, his length and pressure on the ball caused problems, altering passing lanes and forcing deflections that led to turnovers.     [player_tooltip player_id='2557935' first='Michael' last='Boone'] proved to be the ultimate game-changer on defense, creating chaos, frustrating opponents, and fueling his team with momentum-shifting steals. Boone's defensive prowess was on full display particularly his fast active hands and nose for the ball. Boone never waited for the ball to come to him, he took it upon himself to go get it, pursuing the rock like a mad man. He was the definition of relentless, even if an offensive player beat him, he recovered quickly and looked for chances to poke the ball away from behind often coming up successful. Whether he was digging down in the post, stripping a ball-handler on a drive, or reaching in at the perfect moment, Boone played with a knack for knocking the ball loose. Boone was always a step ahead, positioning himself perfectly to jump passing lanes or pick off lazy or telegraphed throws. His ability to gamble without overcommitting allowed him to take calculated risks and create transition opportunities. This kid was such a constant disruptor that offensive players always had to be aware of his presence anytime he was on the floor.
