MHSAA District 17 Semi-Final Sleeper Standouts

Tonight we head to Monroe High School for the district 17 semi-finals. The Temperance Bedford Kicking Mules kicked off the day with a convincing win over The Warriors of Woodhaven with stellar performances from multiple players. Later in the night, The Carlson Marauders squeaked out an overtime win over The Trenton Trojans, both teams offering players with promising futures.    Max is the kind of guy you love to play with and hate to play against. The left handed forward is a double double waiting to happen. Hite plays with a high motor, non-stop action, whether it's rim running or glass cleaning. Max is a rebound magnet, getting extra possessions for his team. Hite offers a nice post presence, finishing through contact efficiently.     Jace is a left handed guard who can effectively get to the hole or shoot the three. Jace's change of pace while handling the ball made it difficult for defenders to stay in front. Jace was very active at the top of the Bedford zone, flying around and creating havoc leading to turnovers. Jace is fast and strong with the build of a college ready guard. His strength isn't just for show either, Jace isn't afraid to put his shoulder into someone's chest and finish through contact.     Don't be deceived by his size, this left handed big likes to let it fly from three. Austin takes pride in setting solid screens for his teammates and pops hard to get himself open beyond the arc. Saavedra has the eyes of a point guard as well, making nice passes from the high-low look. Austin doesn't shy away from going inside and playing the traditional big role either. Saavedra pulled down rebounds and showed flashes of a solid post game with a drop step baby hook.     Ethan is a three point threat, forcing the defense to put a little extra attention on him. Along with being efficient from three, he is also confident in his shot. With a quick, but not rushed shot, he is able to get his shot off with a hand in his face. With timely shots being hit, Ethan kept his team in the game.     With a long and lanky frame, Samuel was able to impact the game in a multitude of ways. Bono has a good looking shot and drilled some big ones in clutch time. Along with multiple threes, Bono also got down hill and physical at the rim, finishing through contact. Samuel was a key piece to his team tonight, scoring very efficiently and making smart plays.     Brody was a spark plug for The Mauraders. I was impressed with his floater, getting down hill and letting it go before getting too deep into the trees. Lavis' quick first step allowed him to blow by defenders, collapsing the help defense and making the smart play, kicking it out to his shooters. Brody didn't let his size play a role in his impact on the game, he showed signs of elite athleticism when out jumping players much taller than him and securing rebounds.
