<p>Over the course of the last few weeks we were introduced to a new in season tournament in North Jersey, the Essex County Invitational. In its inauguration, we saw matchups between teams that either didn't qualify for the county's traditional county tournament or received early exits in the preliminary rounds. Let's take a look at some bigs that have stood out over the last few weeks of this tournament's action. </p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Jaden Then showcased his ability to be effective around the basket. Whether it was catching dump offs from penetrating guards, diving to the rim and finishing at the basket, or finishing plays at the rim in transition, Then showcased his ability to be a strong finisher around the basket. Then also showed good hands, catching the ball down low and good footwork with his ability to pivot, capitalizing off scoring opportunities. Then averaged 10 points across 2 games in the Essex County Invitational. </p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Although incredibly raw, [player_tooltip player_id='2700396' first='Ahmad' last='Cook'] showed flashes of being a force on the interior. Whether it was being able to be effective on the offensive glass or catch it in the low post and make a move, Cook showed a little bit of his potential as an inside big. Defensively, Cook showed he's capable of being a paint protector, using his length to alter and block shots at the rim as well as grabrebounds on the defensive glass. Cook averaged 11.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 5 blocks across 2 games in the Essex County Invitational. </p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Where Tunde Fagbemi was able to hang his hat was the impact he had on the interior for Newark Acadmey. Fagbemi did a good job of protecting the paint— using his length to alter and block shots at the rim as well as secure rebounds on the defensive glass. </p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Providing a strong defensive presence on the interior for Newark Central, Yam'Bya Ndiaye shined in his ability to use his length to not only rebound the basketball at a high rate but also alter and block shots at the rim. In Newark Central's first round matchup against Global Studies, Ndiaye finished the game with 14 rebounds and 9 blocks.</p>

Whether it was finishing in different ways around the basket, grabbing rebounds on the offensive and defensive glass, or protecting the rim, Ekhelar showed he can be a force in the paint. </p>
