Since my goal is to put a spotlight on every talented baller in the state. I am going to go about this very systematically and try to leave no stone unturned. Working my way through the state from the north to south and east to west. County by county, school by school and player by player. I'm searching for the best ballers each county has to offer. Today this journey begins in the northeast part of the state in Box Elder County.

Box Elder County is one of the largest geographic counties in the state of Utah covering over 5,700 square miles. Much of the county is sparsely populated and covered in sagebrush, salt flats and marshes. Despite the large geographic area, the county is home to only two high schools. 5A Box Elder High School in Brigham City and 4A Bear River High School in Tremonton. Neighboring the southern boundary of Idaho most of these ball players fly well under the radar as they are a little less then 2 hours from downtown Salt Lake City. Let me spotlight a couple players in Box Elder County that have caught my eye.

[player_tooltip player_id='2218121' first='Kaser' last='Thurgood'] has talent and a motor. The kid plays with passion. Thurgood can knock it down from three and has a knack for finishing at the rim with contact. Defenders always have their hands full and Thurgood. He knows how to get himself to the free throw line. As a guard he can really rebound and push. A good distributor and he knows how to put his teammates in a position to play to their strengths.

Jeppsen is an under the radar prospect that is just beginning to emerge as a viable college prospect. He is playing strong now after battling injuries his junior season and shaking of the rust from playing football his senior year. At 6-3 he is a mismatch for most defenders. His strengths are his quick first step and his ability to bully defenders around the rim. He can catch and rip from the elbow and that makes him tough to defend. He has posterized several defenders this season with his high flying jams. One of the better vertical leapers in the state.

Avery is a marksman from the arc. He can dribble into the pull up three or make you pay for going under on the ball screen. He is a deadly spot up shooter as well. He loves the corner three and his teammates to a great job finding him there. Avery plays with great confidence and his passion for the game is evident.

This 2027 prospect might just be the most lethal three-point shooter in the 2027 class. With a quick release it doesn't take Jenson much time or space to get off his shot. He is a great rebounder from the shooting guard position. In 15 games this season he has hit 34 threes. At 41% from down town opposing teams can not give this kid open looks. Jenson is not just a three-point shooter. His ability to put it on the deck and post smaller guards make him a tough defensive assignment.

At 6-4 Jones is a physical presence for Bear River. He is a multisport athlete that and plays with a chip on his shoulder. Jones is a solid scorer on the block and can step out and knock down the pull up jumper from the elbow. He is active on the offensive glass and plays with a good motor.

Let me introduce you to the best Freshmen in the state that no one is talking about. This lefty small forward has the height, the skill and the talent to burst onto the varsity scene. He is patiently waiting his time to jump into Box Elder's varsity rotation. Gilmore is long, athletic and very skilled. He has a college frame and game. He finishes above the rim and can knock down the open three. I have not seen a more talented freshmen north of SLC this season. Remember the name. It won't be long until everyone is talking about him. He may end up as the top player in his class.
