Two of the top Chattanooga-area teams brought sacks of fouls. After they were emptied on a sloppy yet scrappy game, Tyner Academy won, 75-64.

McMinn Central (55) - Polk County (61)

Hosts Polk County handed McMinn Central a devastating loss, 61-55. At one point McMinn Central was up 47-30 in the third quarter. The Wildcats just rebounded better and secured the ball, rarely turning it over. Polk's players hopped in joy after the final buzzer.

Tellico Plains (86) - Sweetwater (62)

It took about four minutes to determine Tellico Plains is clearly the better team. Tellico Plains took a 44-26 lead to the halftime break. [player_tooltip player_id='2735316' first='Rylan' last='Woods'] scored 17 points in the opening half.

Sweetwater lacks both size and speed this season. It is a shame too because Sweetwater is a proud program with incredible fan support. They just don't have the horses this year. Several sophomores start and hopefully they will be a part of the next successful Wildcat team.

Tellico Plains runs out some tall wings; their most impressive is [player_tooltip player_id='2735316' first='Rylan' last='Woods']. Woods runs like a deer and holds a few magic tricks in his pocket, like a step-back three-pointer. Woods projects as a potential DII college player after he graduates in 2026.

Tyner Academy (75) - Chattanooga Prep (64)

Tyner, while leading 63-48, committed a moronic technical foul. The foul call was reasonable, but the timing was terrible. Chattanooga Prep used the boost to turn the likely blowout into a contest.

EJECTION in Tyner/Chattanooga Prep game. It looked to be two players irritated at each other and then Kalvontay Moore (Tyner) shoved the Chatt Prep player [who fell] pretty hard into the front row. Moore was given a tech, and I am pretty sure ejected. Tyner leads 63-54 4Q - @PrepHoopsTN Tweet

Sophomore Jordan Felder's corner three-pointer ended the comeback attempt, putting the Rams up 68-55 with 2:32 to play.

In the final minute, Sentinel Jayden Parker earned a technical foul for barking at [player_tooltip player_id='1500690' first='Adarius' last='Brewster'] after Parker stuffed/fouled a dunk attempt.

The hosting Rams battered the offensive glass early. While both teams struggled to make shots, the offensive rebounds of Tyner Academy enabled them to still score. The two teams came out with active hands and caused countless turnovers in the first six minutes. Three players earned their second foul before the first quarter ended. It was scrappy.

1/17/25: Sophomore point guard [player_tooltip player_id='2207470' first='Kohl' last='Ward'] took a leap from last season.
