The A and AA teams/players seem to get much of the attention, but the small-town kids need and deserve some pub as well!

Why do small town/Class B players deserve attention?

Because......We at PHD love Class B basketball. There is nothing better than watching a community rally around its team to see the magic on the court. Small schools are often overlooked by the big city. However, there are plenty of skilled athletes in Class B. When players from small towns are recognized, it can inspire others in the community to strive for greatness, reinforcing the belief that success isn't confined to big cities. Players from small towns often bring unique qualities to the game, such as grit, adaptability, and a strong work ethic, shaped by their experiences and environments.

See below for a quality list of Class B ballers. We will give you some reasons why they deserve a watch.

[player_tooltip player_id='1746021' first='Aiden' last='Hanson'] (2026) |6'4 G/F| Central McLean

WHY?

7-2 record, receiving votes in the State Poll. Everything that the Cougars run goes through Aiden. His court sense and leadership is incredible. Hanson is usually covered pretty heavily but he finds ways to score and creates lots of opportunities for everyone else. He's had a few dunks which is fun but is so careful about it...not showy. Aiden will never be outworked on either end. Aiden is one of the best in all of Class B. He is not just a dude in bball. Hanson does well with his grades, other extracurriculars, and is involved in the community. Take a night to watch the Cougars and Mr. Hanson, you will be impressed. Hanson is averaging 18.6 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 6.2 apg, 2.4 spg, 63 FT%.

[player_tooltip player_id='2349038' first='Andrew' last='Jean'] (2025) |6'2 F| Hankinson

WHY?

9-0 and ranked #4 in State. He is the Pirates vocal leader and he thrives in that role, Andrew is a tremendous leader. Jean has really improved his vision/passing recently, he has led Hankinson in assists 2 of the last 3 games. Jean is a rockstar rebounder, he recently grabbed 14 boards against EKM! Andres is averaging 15 ppg, 9 rpg, 3.5 apg, and 3 spg.

[player_tooltip player_id='2237846' first='Baron' last='Burns'] (2027) |5'9 G| Larimore

5-5 record but this squad is scary. This skilled and smart soph is averaging 13.8 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 4.8 apg, and 3.2 spg. Burns does it all on the hardwood. He is the floor leader, has upgraded his scoring, and typically defends the other team's best guard. Baron is also exceptionally good around the basket for only being 5'9".

[player_tooltip player_id='1329684' first='Ben' last='Schepp'] (2025) |6'2 F/F| Velva

In the last three games, Schepp has went for 19, 12, and 28 points. He is an outstanding all-around athlete who makes a ton of positive plays on both ends of the court.

[player_tooltip player_id='2270551' first='Bennett' last='Meier'] (2025) |6'3 F| New Rockford-Sheyenne

WHY?

8-1 record and ranked #6 in State. A highly successful multi-sport athlete and he is playing very well in hoops. This past Saturday, Bennett had a splashy Double-Double vs. Washburn, he went for 27 points and 10 rebounds. Meir is a stud athlete on the hardwood with hops and speed. He creates TO's, cleans, up the glass, and is an impressive finisher. Meier and the Rockets are set for a historic season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1725175' first='Brayan' last='Karlgaard'] (2025) |6'3 SF| LLM

WHY?

Karlgaard has a nice middy game, his pull-up J is effective. He can also get to the rim when teams rin him off the 3-point line. Brayan is also a tough defender and is a leader for the Loboes.

[player_tooltip player_id='1497479' first='Brennan' last='Johnson'] (2025) |6'8 PF| Tioga

WHY?

The BIG Pirate is averaging 28 ppg, 17 rpg, and 5 rpg. Those are All-State types of numbers! Johnson is making his mark on the Tioga record books. He is now the Pirates All-Time leader in points and rebounds. On top of that, Brennan is the single-game record holder for points and rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id='1951556' first='Brody' last='Ceynar'] (2026) |6'1 G| Ray

WHY?

8-4 record. Brody is averaging 14 ppg, 4 rpg, 3 apg, 3 spg. Ceynar is super efficient scoring the ball as of late. He guards well, is fast up the court, and plays all 5 positions on the floor. Brody is a Swiss Army Knife for the Jays, he does a bit of everything well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2114976' first='Brogan' last='Young'] (2027) |6'0 G| EKM

WHY?

7-4 record and averaging 10.6 ppg, 5.7 rpg, and 2.6 apg. Brogan is shooting the rock hot as of late. Against Sargent County, he broke the school record and drilled 7 three-pointers! He followed that up with 17 points against a daunting Hankinson squad. When the Rebels need scoring or a big rebound, Brogan takes care of it. He will do whatever the team needs. This sophomore is seriously talented, his game gets better every week, and his future is bright.

[player_tooltip player_id='1632742' first='Easton' last='Simon'] (2026) |6'0 G| New Rockford-Sheyenne

WHY?

8-1 record and ranked #6 in State. This athlete is as tough as they come and a tireless worker who always plays with high energy. Simon does not always put up big numbers but always plays stout defense, hustles, and makes the little things happen. However, he can also put up splashy numbers. In the Washburn win, Easton went for 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists.

[player_tooltip player_id='1144603' first='Gentry' last='Richter'] (2025) |6'5 F| Linton-HMB

WHY?

6-3 record. Richter is a Double-Double machine. He does whatever the Lions need for them to be successful. Gentry is averaging 13.5 ppg, 12 rpb, 4 apg, and 1.5 spg. He is the anchor of the Linton defense and always makes the right decision on offense. There are times when Richter could be more selfish but he just loves to share the ball and get his teammates involved. Now that District games are underway, we expect Gentry's numbers and production to increase.

[player_tooltip player_id='1165355' first='Grant' last='Cosley'] (2025) |6'0 G| North Border

WHY?

9-0 record and ranked #3 in State. Cosley scored 18 points and played a great game on Tuesday night in the win over top ten ranked Midway-Minto. He is a two-way player who locks up on defense, he takes pride in defending the opposing team's top player. Grant is a next-level athlete and a dynamic playmaker on both ends. He handles pressure and never gets rattled. Cosley scores the rock from every level. He is outstanding in transition, creative off the bounce, gets to the rim like a bullet shot out of a gun, and hits jump shots from mid-range and 3-point land. Expect Grant and the Eagles to keep winning games, it is shaping up for a memorable season.

Kage Walford (2025) |6'1 G| New Rockford-Sheyenne

WHY?

8-1 record and ranked #6 in State. Walford is an important role player for the Rockets, he gets it done on the defensive side of the ball. Kage scored 3 points and grabbed 3 rebounds in the win over Washburn. What made him stand out was his defense presence & effort. Kage guarded Jacobson the entire game and held him to just 1 point. Going into that game, Jacobson was averaging in the high 20's/low 30's. It was a masterful defensive performance by Mr. Walford.

[player_tooltip player_id='1350687' first='Little' last='Hail Perkins'] (2025) |6'4 SF| Garrison

WHY?

8-4 record. LHP is averaging 26 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 2.1 apg, 3.5 spg, .5 bpg, 47 FG%, 56 2FG%, and 31 3FG%. Perkins scores posting up, in transition, off the bounce, from mid-range with a sweet J, and smoothly from beyond the arc. It is safe to say that LHP is a three-level scorer. He is a gym rat who is always hooping. Perkins and the Troopers have a legit shot at State this spring. They have an intriguing matchup tomorrow night vs. #1 Wilton-Wing.

[player_tooltip player_id='1559968' first='RaeShaun' last='Earl'] (2026) |6'1 G| Hankinson

WHY?

9-0 and ranked #4 in State. We all know he can score the rock, but defensively, he has improved his game the most in the last year. Rae wants to guard the opponent's best player, he has taken that role and run with it. Earl's defense has made a difference for the Pirates this season. His leadership role has also increased as he has gotten older. He is also stuffing the stat sheet at 28 ppg, 6 rpg, 3 apg, and 4 spg.

[player_tooltip player_id='1329685' first='Reggie' last='Bruner'] (2025) |6'2 G| Velva

WHY?

He is a dynamic athlete for the 8-2 Aggies. Bruner has went off for 26, 24, and 16 points in the last three games. He is an opportunistic scorer with extended shooting range. Give Reggie an inch and he will take 3 points. He is also a player slashing downhill and in transition. Regiee is a difficult matchup with his length, versatilty, and speed/bounce. If you like athletes, you will love watching Mr. Bruner play.
