. The versatile 6-foot-6 senior at West Linn recently announced his commitment to NAIA powerhouse Carroll College in Montana, and it was a decision he made based on factors both on and off the basketball floor.
"I went on a visit a couple of months ago and I loved it, felt like home," Gross said. "Met the coaches, just loved them, and just felt like a fit. And my boy Isaiah Crane's over there, so I'm excited to go play with him again. I really just like how the new coach, it's his first year there, this year and he was an overseas coach for about five years, I really just like that connection. His play style is quick and I feel like I just really fit in there."
Crane, of course, is a former teammate of Gross at Jesuit High school a couple of years ago. Gross settled into West Linn last season and this year, he's getting into a groove. In three games so far at the Capitol City Classic, he's averaged 16 points per contest including post a 29-point performance in West Linn's upset win over Inglewood (Calif.), a game where he scored at all three levels and did a tremendous job helping guard star guard Jason Crowe, Jr.
"I started off slow, but I think I've impacted the game in a bunch of ways, defensively, offensively," Gross said. "It's been good so far."
While West Linn suffered their first loss of the season against Tualatin in the Capitol City Classic semis, the Lions have certainly caught some eyes with their play so far this year and Gross believes the best is yet to come."
"I really think we put so much effort into defense that we're killing right now on defense, and no one's expecting that," Gross said. "Everyone put us not top 10, but look at us now. The rest of our season's not looking too difficult, so I think we could come out pretty high."
Our congratulations go out to Gross and his family on his decision. He currently ranks as the #23 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2025 rankings.
