Laconia -- Dylan Wurtz, a former head coach at Menasha and assistant at Kimberly, takes over the head-coaching duties at Laconia and he will have a familiar face sitting next to him as his father, Lucky Wurtz, will be an assistant with the Spartans' program. Lucky Wurtz had served as the head coach at Laconia earlier in his stellar coaching career. Dylan Wurtz, a standout player at Kimberly and UW-Oshkosh, takes over a strong program with four starters back from a 17-10 squad. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1561935' first='Cash' last='Farrell'] (6-2, 18.0 ppg, 8.6 rpg) is a terrific athlete and solid all-around basketball player who competes with confidence and good physical strength. Also returning to the starting rotation are seniors [player_tooltip player_id='2625871' first='Ethan' last='Pinno'] (6-2, 10.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg), [player_tooltip player_id='2700606' first='Nick' last='Blank'] (6-0, 6.8 ppg, 2.9 rpg) and Carter Bonlender (6-4, 3.8 ppg, 3.9 rpg). Lomira -- Former Waupun coach Dan Domask takes over the coaching duties at Lomira and hopes to lead the Lions to the type of success he had at Waupun, which included at WIAA Division 3 state championship. At Lomira, Domask takes over a program with two stellar starters back from a 16-win squad in junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='1561934' first='Jake' last='Broeske'] (6-9, 14.4 ppg, 12.3 rpg) and senior wing [player_tooltip player_id='1289080' first='Jackson' last='Goebel'] (6-1, 12.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg). Two additional players, senior [player_tooltip player_id='2826050' first='Sam' last='Schraufnagel'] (6-2, 4 ppg, 3 rpg) and junior Hunter Duyley (5-9, 4.5 ppg, 2 rpg) also return and should compete for starting spots along with newcomers from a 19-4 JV1 team. 3. St. Mary's Springs -- After winning back-to-back Flyway titles in 2021-22 and 2022-23, the Ledgers slipped to a fifth-place finish last winter. A return to the top isn't out of the question in 2024-25 as long-time coach Kyle Krueger has five returning starters, a deep bench and one of the biggest wild cards in the league. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='2493705' first='Noah' last='Maul'] (6-3, 17.0 ppg, 9.2 rpg), Caden Pitz (6-4, 5.4 ppg, 6.4 rpg) and Ben Anderson (6-0, 5.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg) along with juniors [player_tooltip player_id='1561911' first='Ben' last='Baker'] (5-10, 7.0 ppg, 4.7 rpg) and [player_tooltip player_id='2381687' first='Jack' last='Holzmann'] (6-3, 2.3 ppg) are returning starters from a 13-13 squad. Seniors Tyler Hoffmann (6-3), Jack Vander Sanden (6-2), Braeden Freund (6-2) and Tayte Schoofs (5-9) also return. Senior transfer Emmett Huhn (6-7) played on the JV1 squad last season due to WIAA transfer rules after enrolling at St. Mary's Springs from Plymouth. Huhn's size and scoring could be a huge play for the Ledgers in 2024-25. 4. Omro -- The Foxes went 21-4 and undefeated in the Flyway a year ago as coach Steven Egan got 110 percent out of every player on his roster. Two players who averaged a combined 42.6 points and 16.2 rebounds moved on last spring as Keenan Rahn and Ryan Schoeni each graduated. Nonetheless, Omro should have another quality team as Egan welcomes back three starters in [player_tooltip player_id='2625909' first='Mason' last='Huth'] (6-0, 11.3 ppg, 5.2 rpg), [player_tooltip player_id='2381603' first='Mason' last='Gruss'] (6-2, 10.5 ppg, 7.3 rpg) and [player_tooltip player_id='1561907' first='Lucas' last='Kasuboski'] (6-2, 4.7 ppg, 3.9 rpg). 5. Winnebago Lutheran -- Mason DeNoyer is one of four new coaches in the Flyway and takes over a traditionally strong program that has three starters back in talented junior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='2493633' first='Gannan' last='Schwartz'] (5-10, 15.9 ppg, 3.0 rpg) along with seniors Max Hansman (6-2, 5.5 ppg, 4.8 rpg) and Andy Simon (6-0, 4.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg). Lack of size and experience beyond the three returning regulars are concerns for DeNoyer. 6. Mayville -- Replacing two double-figure scorers in the graduated Cohen Raddemann (5-11, 11.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg) and Braden Drinkwine (6-2, 11.8 ppg, 2.0 rpg) is a big hurdle to overcome, but coach Brett Kirmse does have four key players back who will try to help the Cardinals move up in the league standings.
