Central Florida JamFest 1 - Pure Basketball South

Over the past weekend, I was lucky enough to catch some more local hoops and find some of the players who will be making the jump in the future to more recognizable names in the state. Here's a look at some of the players who made an impression from [program_tooltip program_id='2207817' first='Pure' last='Basketball South'], the team that ended the weekend Event Champions with a 4-0 record.    The righty was the table setter for his team throughout the weekend and by his steady hand, they were able to go 4-0 and capture the event championship over the weekend. Though Velez is only 5'8”, he does a great job navigating the paint and finding his areas amongst the taller players, or even kicking to teammates around the arc. He keeps the ball on a string and showcased some expert ballhandling. Velez also does not shy away from contact in the paint. He was able to use an array of finishing moves and play the angles off the glass for tough layups.     Guard play for Pure South was top notch throughout the weekend. Gonzalez did not disappoint on that front either in the backcourt with Velez. He played well off the ball, was in constant motion drawing defenders to allow plays to develop, and also is a secondary ball-handler when needed to initiate. What impressed more than Gonzalez's offense though was his commitment defensively. He was usually matched up with the best perimeter player from the other team and did well to disrupt their rhythm creating offensive looks for his team out of turnovers.     Rosado was that do it all slasher and combo guard every team needs. That Swiss Army Knife type of guy who will buy in to the strategy on both sides of the ball, doing whatever it takes to win. Another strong-willed guard who simply found a way to positively impact his team the entire weekend. Rosado did his damage around the arc all weekend. A very fluid shooter, repeatable jumper, and high release point led to success in his shot making.     Geigel was the big man for PureSouth this weekend and he showed high level IQ with his dexterity and finishing moves around the paint. Using the rim as an extra precaution and going to the opposite glass so his defenders couldn't get clean looks at a block was done a few times during the weekend. You can tell Geigel puts in the time to master his footwork and upfakes to draw defenders into fouling. The icing on the cake is he's a strong free-throw shooter as well and usually makes the opposing team pay for fouling him.     Oliveras filled that 3-and-D role to perfection all weekend. A skilled shooter, Oliveras made opponents pay for not being more aware of where he was on the court and closing out strong. He's shot making also allowed him to pump fake and drive by defenders that were closing out late and get into the paint for a cleaner look or the dish off. All around high level play and high IQ basketball from a team that wanted to win and imposed their will all weekend.
