Prep Hoops Oklahoma Freshman Showcase: Team 5 Evaluations

Prep Hoops Oklahoma hosted the annual Freshman Showcase this past Saturday which gave us a great look at many of the top prospects in the class of 2028. This article will cover each prospect from Team 5 and evaluations of the remaining teams will be posted soon. [player_tooltip player_id='2560580' first='Kyler' last='McGuire'] was one of the hardest-working players at the showcase. He played with great aggression while solidifying himself as one of the top defenders. McGuire attacked the rim frequently and finished consistently whether he was playing on or off-ball. He regularly picked up opponents full-court and applied pressure without fouling.     [player_tooltip player_id='2550696' first='Ryan' last='Loudermilk'] was previously covered in the <a href="https://prephoops.com/2024/09/prep-hoops-oklahoma-freshman-showcase-top-shooters/?itm_source=parsely-api">Top Shooters </a>article, but also impressed with his versatility. He played with constant aggression and did a great job of using physicality to get to the rim. His first step is very quick which helped him combat hard close-outs. Loudermilk also grabbed a number of hard-fought rebounds and turned them into frast-break opportunities.     [player_tooltip player_id='2560573' first='Donald' last='Laster'] made a good impact on both ends of the court. He forced several turnovers throughout the showcase and regularly attacked before defenses were able to get set. He also knocked down pull-ups with consistency thanks to his quick release. When driving the ball, Laster did a great job of gathering himself before elevating off two feet.     Kayden Primus had one the best showings of any prospect at the showcase. He's a great finisher who uses his athleticism to attack the rim and elevate over defenders. He has great touch within the perimeter and also was able to knock down catch-and-shoot threes with consistency. Primus earned a spot on the <a href="https://prephoops.com/2024/09/prep-hoops-oklahoma-freshman-showcase-second-team-top-6/">second-team top-6</a> and had one of the highest upsides at the showcase.     [player_tooltip player_id='2560583' first='TJ' last='Newton'] has made a case to be the best shooter in Oklahoma for the class of 2028. He has good size and a tight handle that he uses to create space and get shots over defenders. Opposing teams focused on trying to keep him under control but had no such luck. He is an efficient scorer from all three levels and was name to the <a href="https://prephoops.com/2024/09/freshman-showcase-top-6/">first team top-6</a> as well as <a href="https://prephoops.com/2024/09/prep-hoops-oklahoma-freshman-showcase-top-shooters/?itm_source=parsely-api">top shooters </a>from the showcase.     [player_tooltip player_id='2550799' first='Hunter' last='Rowland'] is a very physical player who crashed the glass and scored through contact at the showcase. He has great footwork and patience that he used to get defenders in the air and draw and-ones. Rowland looked for contact and was rarely effected by physicality. His long strides were too much for defenders to keep up with while he was driving.     [player_tooltip player_id='2560569' first='Cooper' last='Holbrook'] is a beast on the interior and overpowered nearly every opponent he faced at the showcase. He has tremendous footwork which he effectively used to gain positioning. Holbrook finished through contact and used his non-stop motor to create many second-chance points. He also was a very impressive passer out of the post as he was able to find cutters and open shooters with his back to the basket.     [player_tooltip player_id='2560577' first='Izaha' last='Jones'] is a long and athletic wing/forward who attacked effectively from the outside. He plays with fluidity and uses his long strides to slice through defenses. While playing on the interior, Jones finished well around the rim and fought for tough rebounds. Defensively, he did a great job of contesting vertically without fouling and was able to block a number of shots.
