A June Sunday always ushers in the @PrepHoopsTN Combine. Ordinarily the final Sunday suffices, but this year we tipped June 16th with an insanely talented coaching staff. The gym hosted high energy. Read about several of the campers with their evaluations from the day. All measurements/times are listed in the linked article.
Joey Howell Joey Howell 6'3" | PF Siegel | 2027 State TN | SF | Siegel | 2027
How did he measure against the competition?
- Class of 2027
- 6'3" SF
- Wingspan -- 6'3"
- 3/4-court Sprint -- 3.84, 3.82
- Lane Agility -- 13.42, 14.25
- Camp Ranking -- #38
- State Ranking -- Top 80
Nice wingspan (6'3"). Straight-line speed can improve. Lane Agility times were decent for his height. Bit on the pump fake once or twice. Fitness was tested late in the day suggesting he needs to work on building endurance. Very thin. Joey needs to get bigger in the chest and back.

Handle needs to become more consistent. He can surprise you with a behind-the-back dribble on the move, but it is not refined just yet. Plus-plus rebounder. Always attacks the rebounds in his area. Sustained a minor ankle injury early in the event, which made portions of the showcase unreflective of his true game. A healthy Trey was 100% going to be on the All-Star team for the event. Proven gym rat. Great teammate. Engaging personality. Finishes around the rim consistently. Completely unafraid of contact. High-academic.

Hit 'em with a between-the-legs dribble during the 5v5 open play late in the day. Hands are slightly bigger than average for a 5-foot-10 guard. He was only two weeks out of middle school when this camp was held. Wonderful wingspan for a budding high school combo guard though he handles suggest point guard.

faded and drifted sideways mid-air significantly raising the difficulty. He missed very short on that attempt. A minute later he settled for an elbow jumper that was a higher-percentage choice, but he still missed a little short. Lateral mobility is ok for a 2027. The Lane Agility times were representative of that mobility (11.73, 11.46). Quiet on-court demeanor on the day. I'd like to see him grow into a vocal defender, helping his teammates with real-time instruction and "eyes." What I mean by eyes is describe where defenders or screeners are in the vicinity of each teammate. It can help orient guys to their surroundings.
