Playing on a 2023-24 Franklin squad with a lot of senior depth and talent at the guard position, [player_tooltip player_id='2412944' first='Darion' last='Mitchell'] didn't always come to the forefront for the Cougars. Now things are different because Mitchell is one of the most important returning 6A prospects in El Paso. He's been making waves during the AAU circuit this Summer which bodes well because Franklin will rely on his shot-making and scoring this upcoming season. He has good height and length for the high school level and showed flashes of elite 3-point shooting as a junior.

Coming off a limited junior year due to injury, Cason Golding is one of the more exciting prospects to return for the 2024-25 season. He is arguably the best movement shooter in the Borderland region. Very few prospects in this area can vary their shot from beyond the arc as well as Golding and the only limiting factor to him having a stellar senior year is health. He's a captain of the Coronado football team so the risk of coming into the basketball season with an injury is higher than non-dual sport athletes. However, if he comes into the basketball season at 100 percent, the T-Birds will have one of the best shooting guards in the city.

Chapin is a perpetually loaded program with elite Borderland prospects at every position and classification. Thus, some Huskies, like Julian Pachecho go unnoticed. He was the starting point guard on a 34-win team with unprecedented guard depth. He's a reliable ball handler and capable shooter willing to spot up or take shots at the end of the shot clock. He might not post eye-popping stats his senior year but Chapin will win plenty of games with him on the court.

[player_tooltip player_id='2263143' first='CJ' last='Quirino'] is another 2025 prospect who had his junior year soured by injury but when healthy he is easily one of the most dynamic guards in the Borderland. He's best deployed with the ball in his hands in transition where he can play make or finish at the rim. He's one of those guards you need to pick up full-court because if you give him space to attack he's great at penetrating. Pebble Hills lost some major guard depth to graduation so Quirino will have an opportunity to really excel his senior year if he can stay healthy.

To my knowledge, [player_tooltip player_id='2412113' first='Austin' last='Bonilla'] is the shortest player in the Borderland to start on a varsity basketball program in the Borderland. But Bonilla does more than start. He's one of the best playmakers and penetrators in the area with the ability to navigate tight spaces and hard angles. Moreover, he's a reliable ball handler who seldom gets turned over by heavy ball pressure. If Canutillo replicates or improves on their 23-win season from 2023-24, it will be in large part due to Bonilla.

He might not be playing against the best competition in high school basketball week in and week out, but Hector Perez can hold his own against any opponent in the Borderland. He's a point guard who has a knack for high-scoring outings. He's an excellent 3-point shooter and is more of a combo guard who is at his most dangerous with the ball in his hands. Regardless of how things go for Immanuel Chrisitan this upcoming season, Perez is going to put up big numbers.
