It's been an off-season of new adventure for [player_tooltip player_id='1368253' first='Anthony' last='Best']. After the year ended at Cascade, there was a coaching change so the athletic 6-foot-6 forward decided to transfer to Sprague and played with the Olympians during the month of June. Spring and summer was different in the club ball scene too as he changed gears and played for a Washington-based team in NW Drip, but that experience was good for him in more ways than one.

"It was really different, honestly, because I've never played for a team like on the circuit, and just like against higher competition," Best said. "But it was obviously a good eye-opener for me, playing against that competition and it was really fun. I got better, you know what I'm saying? It was a good opportunity."

NW Drip played on the adidas 3Stripes Gold and Best described just how playing with and against high-level players helped out his game. "I would say, when I was younger, I was forced to stay at the five, but now I'm working my way out to the two and three," Best said. "So I've been working on my shooting, just getting by my defenders, everything. It's a lot better."

We recently watched Best compete at Portland State's Elite Camp and he more than held his own. He initially started off on a team filled with younger players, but after he made an impression running the floor and finishing at the rim, he was quickly moved to another "top" squad alongside and against other prospects the Vikings have been keeping an eye on. As he hopes to continue to be on PSU's radar he noted he has also been hearing from Northwest Nazarene, Western Washington, and Lewis & Clark among others, but is keeping things open as he awaits his first offer.

"I want where I can play, and just good people, honestly - it's not all about basketball at the end of the day," Best said. "I want to be with a good group that is fun to be around and fun to play with."

With club basketball having finished up, Best now looks ahead to rejoining his new school and competing for Sprague this 2024-25 season with plenty of promise. "I'm really excited, honestly," Best said. "It's obviously a bigger level to play at and I'm really excited for it - we have a good team and we play pretty good together. We just need a little bit of practice, but we'll be good."

Best currently ranks as the #30 player in the updated PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2025 rankings.
