One of the breakout players in 2023-24 from the Class of 2025 was [player_tooltip player_id='1624504' first='Quincy' last='Scott']. The year was a fresh start for the versatile 6-foot-6 forward as there was not only a change in scenery in schools from Central Catholic to Grant, but also one where his role changed as well. We recently caught up with the chatty rising senior to discuss last season, this off-season so far, and what the future may look like as he prepares for his final year of high school basketball.

First order of business - how did last season go for him with all the changes? "It was crazy going from Central here to Grant, but it was great," Scott said. "It was really welcoming here and I immediately made a connection with my teammates. It's just awesome being a little bit more involved in just everything and it feels like people looked up to me a little bit and it also felt like I was able to voice my opinion, kind of be a leader on the team. So it was really amazing going from a situation where just being in the middle of the pack to being a little bit more up top is great. It felt like I was able to showcase my talents a little bit more and it was awesome being able to make even more of a connection with my teammates here."

Scott dived deeper into the changes on the court. "A lot opened up for me and it felt like I was out there and kind of just played my game, I just played freely," Scott said. "I kind of just did what I do best. Of course, I still have so much to work on - I need to expand my game a lot. But it was just fun to go out there and just kind of play freely, not worry too much about mistakes, not be worried about being pulled out the game, just knowing that I have a great impact on the game. My teammates, my coaches, everybody really trusted me in that role that I had this year, which was great."

Playing mostly up front, the Generals benefitted from Scott's motor, willingness to rebound and defend, and his overall versatility on both ends of the floor. He ended up averaging 9.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks per game - and he's hopeful the work he's putting in this off-season will pay dividends towards next year. One area we noticed immense improvement has been with his three-point shooting. After hitting just a little over 20 percent from beyond the arc last season, he's been stroking the ball confidently from three and has had multiple games in summer league where he's been hitting the three consistently.

Scott played this spring with [program_tooltip program_id='2198275' first='More' last='Than Hoops'] and while he's been happy about how things have been going, as the team heads into the July period he's still not satisfied. "It's an adjustment and I'm still trying to find my role a little bit, to be honest," Scott said. "I'm really looking forward to just getting more reps up as I think that I need to shoot the ball more. But I'm really confident in my ability to defend, as I have been for the last couple of years. But I'm really looking forward to getting up more shots and as I'm more comfortable with my teammates now, I think that they're looking for me a lot more. I'm just looking to get better, you know what I mean? And I think going to [program_tooltip program_id='2198275' first='More' last='Than Hoops'] was a great decision for me, just because I'm being coached in a different way, and it's been really helpful for me, for sure."

When you combine his motor, willingness and ability to guard multiple positions, and now his improved outside shooting - it's hard not to envision Scott being a three-and-D type of player at the college level. There's no question coaches have seen these qualities from his play on the AAU circuit and while he's fully aware of the interest he's keeping his mind set on the current rather than the future.

"I'm not trying to rush it - I'm focused on getting better and I'm focused on getting my reps up right now," Scott said. "I know that what's going to happen is meant to be, you know what I mean? And whatever happens is going to happen. I'm just keeping in contact with a couple of coaches and just reaching out in a comfortable manner, not trying to do too much. You can see I'm not crazy on social media and stuff and I'm just kind of patient with it."

"Right now is just a time for development and right now is a time for me to get my workouts in, my reps up in the game, my reps up in practice and all that stuff, just consuming the game getting smarter, just getting better in that type of way," Scott continued. "So I'm not too worried about it too much, just trying to get my name out there but not putting too much pressure on it."

The recruiting interest from college coaches has been from all levels, and is keeping all his options open. "I'm looking for just a program where I can play," Scott said. "I'm not too worried about going to the best college ever or being the best player of all time. I just want to get better consistently, and the colleges that I'm talking to right now, I should be able to just go in there and just be coached. I want to be coached, I want to have some development, and I'm not worried about going to the biggest college and making the biggest announcement that I'm going D1 or whatever. I'm just looking to go to a place where I can play."

Scott currently ranks as the #18 player in the recently updated Class of 2025 rankings.
