Continue ReadingThe University of Houston annual high school team camp was big on prospects and matchups this weekend and Friday did not disappoint. Many players were looking to either improve their stock or make their mark on the city basketball scene. Some performers definitely stood out from the rest, regardless of the results of their game. Let’s examine a few players who caught my eye Friday afternoon.
BJ was the most effective guard in the win for Houston Superstars against Dream Elite at the UH camp. He knows when to speed up and slow down the pace of the contest and has very effective decision making with the basketball in his grasp. He can beat a defense off the dribble with a crafty move at the rim or pull up for a shot over the outstretched arms of the opponent. He is one of the more slept on guards in the city for the class of 2025 and will only continue upward momentum from this point on.
Highlights
Coleman showed the defense that he can beat them from either inside the post or on the perimeter in the game against Houston Superstars . He possesses a soft touch on his jumper and can feather the ball inside for an easy two points. His offense is superb as he stays disciplined inside for an easy two points and can consistently excel in the pick and roll as the screener.

Anthony Avalos
Anthony was an impact player in the Superstars victory over Dream Elite and close game with JL3 16u EYBL. He can shoot the long ball when left open or drive to the rim and draw fouls at a high clip. His defense is also disciplined as he can guard on the perimeter when needed and swat shots at the basket. All of Houston has been telling me about the upside of Anthony for the past year or so and now that I have seen it myself, I believe the hype. The scary part is he still has a lot of room to grow.

Evan Fresquez
Evan was the main man in the middle for the Woodlands in their win over Asheville Christian on early Friday morning. He occupied the paint with a purpose and had several points off impressive putbacks and midrange shots. Fresquez also showed a great motor, running the floor on fastbreaks and throwing outlet passes to his guards ahead for easy transition points and getting back on defense quickly. Evan never showed frustration while on the court and was a constant source of energy on the glass, helping his team secure important rebounds critical in the win.

Reggie Rideau
Reggie was the main tempo pusher for his squad in their statement win over Joe Little 17u. He was effective from the field, shooting the lights out in the midrange and controlling the offense. He is very comfortable handling the basketball even under pressure and continues to excel in the big moments. He can beat the defense downhill with impressive speed and high IQ playmaking.

Demorae was the main scorer for his Summer Creek squad in their win over Joe Little. He can score from all three levels very efficiently and beat the defense even without the basketball. He uses his length and wingspan on defense to play passing lanes and notch steals, as well as facilitate on fastbreaks. I can see Pritchett increasing his stock big time this summer if he keeps up playing at this level.
