TABC Showcase: Skilled Under-the-Radar Guards to Watch

It's officially here! There's going to be a TON of talent at the TABC Showcase this weekend. So much that you're likely to miss some diamonds in the rough. No need to worry, I've gathered some talented guards below that are under-the-radar prospects that you will not want to miss.    Kam is a determined, resilient guard that moves incredibly well without the ball. He has a keen ability of knowing how to be in the right spots at the right times. He's extremely active in the paint, often tracking down second and third-chance opportunities for his team. He's a skilled ballhandler that can go either way on his opponent, which makes it hard to lock him up when he puts his head down and bursts toward the basket. McDonald's jump shot has a high arc that beautifully evades his lengthier defenders on its way to the net. His footwork is solid and he doesn't shy away from the limelight in the slightest - he consistently asks for the ball and takes on the responsibility of getting his team BUCKETS. Make sure you catch Kam on Saturday (6/22) at Hebron High - 1115am CST vs. Aldine (Court 5) and 335pm CST vs. El Paso Andress (Court 3).     Ayden is a talented point guard whose court vision and speed are absolutely off the charts. He's a nightmare to keep up with on the offensive end, his rapid first step and overall burst leaves the best of his defenders in the dust. If the shot's not there for him, Serrano uses his stellar basketball IQ and finds his teammate with the best look at the basket with what's often a jaw-dropping pass. He has the ability to adjust his shots in mid-air when he elevates in the paint and it results in him rarely getting denied at the basket. Ayden has a PRETTY floater for his taller defenders and his quick decision-making is elite. He can also get hot from behind the arc and drain plenty of threes on his opponent - displaying his impressive offensive versatility. Make sure not to miss Ayden at Hebron High bright and early on Saturday (6/22) - 8am CST vs. Pflugerville Hendrickson (Court 5).     Jaxson is an absolute ACE from the three-point line. If you give him any amount of space beyond the arc he will pull up and drain it before you know what happened. His teammates often rise from the bench when he puts it up and the ball is still in flight - each individual with three fingers high in the air. He moves terrifically without the ball and his teammates do a great job of setting picks to free him for just enough time to get his treys off. Vicknair is an excellent passer and he has great court vision to set his teammates up for success. He's got a nice arc to his shot which is a pleasure to watch and comes in handy when he's driving against or shooting over his bigger opponents. He's a skilled ballhandler that can get himself in and out of traffic with relative ease. Jaxson is not afraid of pressure either, seems like he craves it. He's one of the first to step up on his team when they need a basket to win or pull away from their opponent. Make sure you catch Jaxson on Saturday (6/22) at Southwest Athletic Center - 1115am CST vs. Conroe Grand Oaks (Court 5).     Shyam is a lengthy, skilled guard that can hurt his opponents in multiple ways offensively. He can sink the three-ball, he can drive either way to the paint, and he can easily elevate over nearly all his defenders for clear looks at the basket. His length comes in handy on the defensive side of the ball as well with how he consistently sends opposing shots to the rafters or forces his man to take an ill-advised attempt. His strides are long and that helps him get to the basket quickly when driving into the paint. He's great at moving without the ball and finding his spots where a bucket is almost guaranteed. His shooting ability is NICE and his accuracy is incredibly impressive. Make sure you don't miss Patel on Saturday (6/22) at Hebron High - 9pm CST vs. Flour Buff (Court 4) and Sunday (6/23) at Southwest Athletic Center - 1220pm CST vs. Garland (Court 7) and 440pm CST vs. Boswell (Court 7).     Steven is a defensive-minded guard that is pure hustle, heart, and grit. He's passionate about locking down his opponents and doesn't shy away from even the toughest of assignments. He has the footwork and agility to stay in front of his speedier opponents and you'll never see him take a play off. He's long for a guard and he uses that to disrupt passing lanes, stuff and alter opposing shots, and sink attempts with ease over his opponents on the offensive end. I love Smith's confidence and his willingness to take on any and every challenge thrown his way. He's versatile and you can plug him into multiple positions and watch him go to work. Make sure to catch Steven on Saturday (6/22) at Southwest Athletic Center - 230pm CST vs. North Richland Hills (Court 8) and on Sunday (6/23) - 8am CST vs. Princeton (Court 8). He wraps up his TABC play on Sunday afternoon at Hebron High - 125pm CST vs. Smithson Valley (Court 5).
