We're highlighting some players we watched this spring, making our way across the state by geographic region.

Here are some forwards and centers from northeast Kansas (excluding Topeka) who stood out:

[player_tooltip player_id='2403150' first='Ronnie' last='Baker'], 6-foot-3 forward, 2026, Perry-Lecompton, SSA (pictured):

Baker is building on a very impressive sophomore campaign by running with a competitive SSA team this club season. He is a big man who can really step out and shoot it from the perimeter. Baker is physically strong and able to finish in traffic. He battles on the boards and can defend opposing big men.

Colby Frehe, 6-foot-8 center, 2025, Nemaha Central, SSA:

An emerging shot blocker, Frehe is prepping for a big senior year by competing at a high level this club season. He is a really springy big who disrupts shooters with the best of them. He competed at a high level for one of the state's best small schools last year, so this spring he had a chance to show others what he can do. He has really nice coordination and ball skills, which allow him to move out of the post to face the goal. This guy could be a real riser over the next nine months.

Drake Skirvin, 6-foot-6 center, 2026, Burlingame, 785 Athletics:

Skirvin is a name to know on both the gridiron and hard court. His skills translate in both places – a long, lean athlete who can run and jump. He fills the lane in transition and chases down plays at the defensive end. His length and vertical make him a standout on the glass.

Braylon Meyn, 6-foot-3 forward, 2026, Hanover, SSA:

Meyn stepped into a leadership role at Hanover last year and is prepared to compete with players from bigger schools. He's got a solid, mature build and good athleticism for a fast-paced game. He is really good defending on the perimeter, dogging ball handlers and contesting shooters. He works hard on traps in the backcourt. He does everything well on the offensive end, making him a very well-rounded player.

Colin Shaughnessy, 6-foot-2 forward, 2026, Axtell, SSA:

This guy plays bigger than 6-foot-2. He's a powerful force, using his body to ward off defenders on the drive, getting to tough shots or penetrating to dish. He has a great feel in the post, which you would expect from a guy who plays a lot in the paint for a small high school. But he's got diversity to his game. He cuts and catches to score on the move, and he's dangerous from deep.
