Mayhem in the Plex: Sunday 15U Standouts

He has no qualms about banging bodies in the paint and he knows how to be aggressive when he needs to. His passing stands out in a huge way - full-court heaves, lightning-fast dishes to his cutters, and his ability to slip the ball through the toughest of defenders - leaving them frustrated and shrugging on how they can stop him. He has active hands and elite vision which he uses to disrupt opposing passing lanes and quickly go the other way for an easy deuce. His footwork is impressive and he uses it to get to spots where his defender can't touch him. He has a wicked spin move and he's fast - so it's nearly impossible to stop when he's in the paint. Williams is an excellent three-point shooter as well - forcing the defense to attempt to stick to him all over the court and effectively stretching the floor for his team. Creighton will be one to catch this summer and  watch going into his sophomore season. He's all over the court in a good way, making heads up plays for his team throughout the game. He's an excellent ballhandler and he doesn't shy away from the paint in the least - banging in the key for rebounds, creating separation for open looks, and getting heaps of additional shot opportunities. He can slay you with his three-point shooting ability and if you guard him close at the arc, he'll use his quickness and myriad of moves to maneuver right around you for an open lane to the hoop. He beats his defenders down the floor and he always hustles back on defense himself. He knows how to swipe the ball effectively without fouling and rack up the steals for his team. He's everything you want in a point guard - directing the charge down the floor, communicating thoroughly with his teammates, and literally never giving up on a play. He's active all over the court and he has good hands on defense, often swiping the ball from his opponents, altering their shot selection in a big way, or sending their attempts flying to the bleachers. His offensive rebounding gets him steady opportunities to rack up second-chance points for his team and leave the opposing team gassed and frustrated. His footwork is fantastic and the way he operates and thinks through his next steps reminds me heavily of Pau Gasol or Alperen Sengun. He's strategic on the offensive end and can often work his way to an easy bucket or creating contact to get to the charity stripe. He has impressive stamina and hustle and never takes a play off - I don't think I saw him walk once and he played heavy minutes in his games as a top player for his squad. He's an excellent finisher in the paint and he doesn't panic in traffic - he thinks his way through his next steps and patiently roasts his defenders. He's not afraid to lock his man up with consistent full-court defense and he's constantly creating steal opportunities and picking off passes to quickly break the other way for an easy hoop. He has a dominant presence for his size and he's versatile, he can hang with guards and forwards and often shut them down rapidly and overpower them on the offensive side of the ball. He was one of the most clutch players I saw all weekend - his teammates repeatedly going to him to sink jumpers in late-game situations which he did with no hesitation. He's got a soft touch on his jumper - getting the bounce on the rim to fall his way more often than not when he wasn't swishing his shots outright. He's incredibly accurate from the three-point line and will make the opposing defense pay if they don't stick to him like glue. Jones is a team-first player and he wants to be out there for his squad when the game is on the line - I saw him bounce back quicker than you would expect from what looked like a nasty shoulder stinger. He has all the intangibles you'd look for in a shooting guard - confidence, resilience, and bountiful energy.
