One of the best things about spring is to see guys ready to take the next step. We saw a lot of risers at the KC Classic last weekend.

Here are some guards you should know who stood out at the KC Classic (in alphabetical order):

Cohen Bloomquist, 5-foot-11 guard, 2027, Emporia, KS 94x50 United:

We'll start this list with a freshman who showed a lot of game against older competition. Bloomquist is a heady guard who handles the ball well and plays under control. He's a smooth driver, getting to good positions to find openings to exploit. He dished the ball intelligently. But what really stood out was his penetration to drop soft floaters on the move. Bloomquist wasn't as big or physically developed as most of the competition in Kansas City, but that didn't faze him.

Mason Bui, 6-foot guard, 2025, Derby, Wichita Magic:

Bui is sort of the polar opposite of the freshman Bloomquist. Bui is a seasoned varsity player eager for a bigger role next year. He played with physicality and toughness against the 17U competition in KC and impressed. He can handle the point, can shoot it from deep, and can really mix it up in traffic. He has good length and can impact on the glass and on the defensive end.

Alex Delgado, 6-foot-1 guard, 2026, Shawnee Heights, 785 Athletics:

Delgado is a super smooth point guard with a height advantage over most point men. He handled pressure really well in Kansas City, keeping his eyes up, seeing the court and distributing the ball. He was a factor on the defensive end because of his length, and he showed off some slick moves to get to shots in the midrange.

Miles Flint, 6-foot guard, 2026, Shawnee Mission South, PAC:

Flint really stood out in the 16U division. He is an athletic and high-energy point man. He knew when to probe defenses and when to turn on attack mode. Once he turned downhill, he got to jumpers and floaters, drew fouls and created openings for others. He showed off a really nice turnaround fadeaway. Flint is quick, smart and creative.

[player_tooltip player_id='1682490' first='Owen' last='Stanberry'], 6-foot-2 guard, 2026, Eisenhower, SBA:

We love the smooth style of Stanberry. He is a really long guard who can see the floor and pass over smaller guards. He has a comfort level with the ball in his hands and he is focused on running the offense and getting his teammates opportunities. Stanberry is an athletic mismatch for small guards. He never appears to be out of control or uncomfortable running the offense.

One of the best things about spring is to see guys ready to take the next step. We saw a lot of risers at the KC Classic last weekend.
