Coming off a game-winner, Shane Cherry Shane Cherry 5'9" | PG Austin-East | 2025 State #353 Nation TN played ok. He did not finish the game though. Cherry came off at the half.
Reed Ownby Reed Ownby 6'4" | SG Sevier County | 2025 State TN – BMaze 17u
Sevier County High star Reed Ownby Reed Ownby 6'4" | SG Sevier County | 2025 State TN nailed a wing three-pointer to draw BMaze 17u even Saturday night versus Team AJ Bouye, 45-45. The teams drew even again at 49-49. Reed passed up a decent look from the same spot, electing to kick to the corner as his defender closed out. Ultimately, BMaze 17u did not get a make there.
With three minutes to play, Reed caught a flair from a designed horns set. He lofted a three-pointer but missed. BMaze 17u drew a foul on the rebound. Ownby took the ball out baseline and lobbed it to long-time teammate Deondrea for two. This is the third summer in a row Reed and Lindsey have teamed up with BMaze.
BMaze 17u finally created some separation in the final 90 seconds. Reed caught an outlet pass and expertly fed a surging forward on the break. Dunk for the cause! BMaze 17u led 72-66 with 1:16 left.
Ownby hit all four of his team’s free throw attempts in the final 30 seconds. The most pressure-filled was with 2.9 left, up 75-72. He made those two and the game ended, 77-72 in BMaze 17u’s favor.
Deondrea Lindsey – BMaze 17u
I was wrong about Deondrea. Two years ago I thought he was a mid-major power forward, at best. His agility was good, but I did not see the physical improvement laterally that was to come. Credit Lindsey with working his legs and training outside of basketball. He can and will be able to defend MM-HM wings and then score on the blocks with counter-moves. Lindsey left Knoxville Catholic before his junior season and attends Oak Hill Academy (VA).
