Here are the five guards we added to the 2025 class rankings:
#48 Will Wegerer Will Wegerer 5'10" | CG Cunningham | 2025 State KS , 5-foot-9 guard, 2025, Cunningham:
Good grief was this guy huge in the 1A Div. II tournament. His wonder twins act with fellow junior guard Luke Albers Luke Albers 5'11" | CG Cunningham | 2025 State KS was so equally impressive, we decided to slot Wegerer just one spot behind Albers, who was entered in the rankings last spring. Wegerer’s regular season stats – 19 points, 7 boards, 5 assists and 3 steals – foretold a big tournament. And the junior didn’t disappoint. He scored 25, 24 and 27 in the three-game run to the title.
#58 Ismael Berry Ismael Berry 6'0" | CG Wichita East | 2025 State KS , 6-foot guard, 2025, Wichita East:
This slick guard flashed to everyone’s attention when he helped lead Wichita East to the 6A state tournament with a couple of big upsets. He is quick in the open court and his long range. He rang up 14.5 points per game as a junior. He finished with 17 in a hard-found state loss to eventual champ Shawnee Mission Northwest, a game that stayed close well into the fourth period.
#81 Tate Nagy Tate Nagy 5'9" | PG Blue Valley West | 2025 State KS , 5-foot-9 guard, 2025, Blue Valley West:
Blue Valley West had a really nice season, going 16-5 behind a guard-oriented attack. Nagy was one of the quick, athletic guards who drove and dashed into defenses and kicked to teammates all season. He was a threat from deep and off the bounce, getting 11 points and 4 assists per game. He also turned in 3 steals as a pesky, opportunistic defender.
#82 Eli Broxterman Eli Broxterman 6'0" | CG Axtell | 2025 State KS , 6-foot guard, 2025, Axtell:
Broxterman has already done a lot of winning at Axtell and made a run at adding a basketball title to the three he’s helped win on the gridiron. This basketball season, Broxterman was the Eagles’ leading scorer and rebounder with 14 points and 5.5 boards per game. The Eagles finished third in the 1A Div. II class with Broxterman getting at least 16 points in each contest. He scored 25 in a tough win over Dighton for third place.
#86 Kenyon Gillins Kenyon Gillins 5'8" | CG Wellsville | 2025 State KS , 5-foot-8 guard, 2025, Wellsville (pictured):
With all the great guard play for Wellsville this year, we couldn’t help but become big fans of Gillins in the state tournament. He was all over the place making plays. He was diving on the floor, jumping passing lanes, hitting from deep and handling the ball under pressure all tournament long. But that came as no surprise to the Eagles. Gillins has been producing since his freshman season with great quickness and on-ball defense. This year he averaged 11 points per game for the guard-rich Eagles. Once at the 3A tournament, he was at his best. He hit nine 3s, defended bigger opponents, rebounded and ran the offense, and ultimately led the team with 49 points in the three games.
