I had the opportunity to cover the 12U and 11U games at Marmion Academy on Sunday in Aurora, where I witnessed a talented group of young players showcasing their potential for a promising basketball future. In this article, I highlight a handful of standout players who stood out Chi-Town Tipoff’s Sunday Stars!
Noah Marshall Noah Marshall 5'10" | CG IL | Midwest Dream | Illinois
Marshall was dominant for his Midwest Dream squad, and can takeover whenever his team needs a jolt of energy. Showed some raw ball-handling where he was able to cross up his defender and power his way to the rim and finish under control. Physical post-up option and does work in the paint. Make-up speed to recover on defense. Gives a great amount of hustle.
Rex Jorgensen Rex Jorgensen 5'5" Bentonville | 2030 AR | AAO Flight | Arkansas
Jorgensen was a solid contributor for an AAO Flight team. Good hands and footwork to put himself in better scoring opportunities. Showed a nice step-through move multiple times with a soft touch. Was able to take on contact when driving and power through to score some difficult shots. Good stroke from downtown, but the consistency will come with development.
Cai Carpenter Cai Carpenter 5'2" | PG IL | All In Athletics Kay | Illinois
He’s a key piece for this All In Athletics team. Carpenter surprised me with his ability to handle the ball and maneuver his way through a defense. Displayed smart cuts, and one happened on an inbounds play under the basket where Carpenter fooled his defender with a backcut straight to the rack, scoring an easy layup. Plays straight up on defense and defends with his body. Showed some QB-like passes on a couple deep inbounds plays.
Chance Patti | Team Herro Kirchoff | Wisconsin
Confident and composed at such a young age for Team Herro out of Wisconsin. Eyes up ball-handler who can share the ball with accuracy or skillfully attack the hoop. Skilled finisher, and showed a nice shot fake before mid-range jumpers. Underrated cutter who kept movement on offense and opened up the floor.
Bryson Smith Bryson Smith 5'4" Bentonville | 2030 AR | AAO Flight | Arkansas
Another athlete from the AAO Flight team, but Smith was just as entertaining to watch. Shifty ball-handler that could finish with either hand, and had a soft touch on a few floaters. A pretty tough finisher at the rim. Defensively, Smith guarded tightly and created numerous steals, and he took some of those steals coast to coast.
