CBG X ETC Standuts: 15U

CBG and ETC came together in Richmond this past weekend to put on their Grassroots Tip-Off event, a one day showcase featuring some of the best teams in the DMV and throughout the state of VA.   Here's a look at some of the 15U standouts from the event.   [player_tooltip player_id='2353632' first='Makai' last='Ragland'] | 6'6” WF | Team Vizion   <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/04/tempImageDVfZay.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/04/tempImageDVfZay.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-2427202" /></a></figure>   Ragland is coming off an impresive freshman season where he showed he's one of the best young players in the state, and he actually played up with Viziion's 16U team and was impressive against two of the top 16U programs in the country in New World and [program_tooltip program_id='2226307' first='Team' last='Loaded VA']. The 6'6” wing looks the part with a great frame and good length, and his versatility already makes him very intriguing long term. He handled the ball and made shots on the perimeter, he rebounded and was physical in the paint and he's a switchable defender who guarded multiple positions.   Ashton Graves | 6'3” PG | New World   <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/04/tempImageDujwKO.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/04/tempImageDujwKO.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-2427205" /></a></figure>   Graves was another impressive freshman at John Champe this season, and he's had a great start to the spring with New World too. At 6'3” he has great size for a lead guard already, and he has a lot of the intangibles you want in someone running a team with great feel and instincts on both ends of the floor. He lived in the paint with his shifty handle and good burst, he finished at the rim and made shots from all three levels and he set the tone defensively too.   Jlon Lyons | 6'3” WG | New World   Lyons showed flashes of brilliance as a freshman at Clinton Grace on a team that was stacked with upperclassmen, and he doesn't look or play like most his age already. The 6'3” off guard has a strong frame and knows how to use it getting downhill and finishing through contact with relative ease. He's an explosive athlete who has good burst and can play above the rim in transition, he showed the ability to make shots off the catch and was a good rebounder for his position too.   Jacoby Briscoe | 6'5” F | New World   Briscoe is one who really impressed with his long term upside at the event, showing an advanced skillset and understanding of the game for a player his age and size. He is a very well-rounded player who can play multiple positions and impact the game in a lot of different ways, and his high IQ was also impressive as he really knows how to play. He showed good passing ability with both hands and made great reads, he knocked down open shots from deep and he showed the ability to create off the bounce.   Hassan Whiteside | 6'4” F | Team [program_tooltip program_id='2416185' first='Loaded' last='804']   Whiteside made an impact early as they played the first game of the day, and he was very productive as he played with a great motor and was all over the floor on both ends of the floor. The 6'4” hybrid forward showed a vast skillset with a lot of upside moving forward, and the willingness to do the dirty work too. He attacked the glass hard on both ends of the floor, ran the floor and finished well in transition and showed mismatch ability with good ball skills to make shots and get to the rim off the bounce.   Jacob Quarles | 6'5” F | Team [program_tooltip program_id='2416185' first='Loaded' last='804']   Quarles was another impressive forward for this Loaded group, as he was a dominant presence in the paint and had to have averaged a double-double throughout the event. The 6'5” forward was physical in the paint clearing out space to rebound and showing good post moves, he finished around the rim with both hands, he showed good footwork and he played with a great motor.
