Jaxon Virgel
Jaxon Virgel
Virgel is a very promising prospect, only 13 years old he is already fairly tall, fast, strong, and coordinated. He plays the baseline, low block, and high post well as a cutter and back to the basket scorer. He is quick and decisive when receiving passes, he plays well off two feet with good fundamentals chinning the ball frequently keeping it high and tight. Displays some good moves using pivots and fakes, I saw him with a nice pump fake and step thru with the soft touch then on another play he got down the lane with a euro step layup. He likes to show his athleticism off with big blocks and great speed for a big, he can keep up with mostly everyone on the court stride for stride. Adept at filling in gaps on offense and filling in holes on defense. Very much a two-way player with tons of potential to grow as an outside threat and a passer. He gives great effort on help side defense with nice awareness when rotating and he’s vocal on court calling out screens, cuts, and switches.
Houston had a good weekend in Dallas, he was a top prospect on any court he stepped on. He has a skill set with so much potential, he can handle the ball well against most guards and other forwards on the perimeter and will put smaller guards and forwards in the post. He can shoot, pass, and defend very well from all areas. Can shoot from all 3 levels but fares best getting down the lane where he is very crafty with pump fakes, ball fakes, and footwork to score. He got the ball down in the post and slid a no look dime to a cutter, an impressive play to say the least. As a defender he can virtually guard every position on the floor, but he’s best as a paint defender turning shots back and playing help side to grab steals.
Highlights
Jaxson is a strong guard/forward hybrid player. He loves to be in control of the ball and looks to get in transition from turnovers. He can get downhill and score around the rim pretty well. He’s a decent mid-range shooter if left open and will share the ball given opportunity. He defends the perimeter with great effort, getting after steals in the passing lanes and looking for ways to make shooters miss. He closes out on shooters quickly and has decent lateral quickness to match. He can get in between defenders using his strength and finish through contact. I watched him take play from one end to the other off the rebound for the and one finish and convert the free throw, a key play at the time down in the 2nd half.
Highlights
Gibbons is a beast offensively on the low block. He will power defenders under the rim and use his broad shoulders to clear space for buckets. He has some footwork as well showing the ability to score using up and unders and drop steps to score. I watched him go 3 for 3 on 3 consecutive possessions from around the restricted area. He uses his size to secure rebounds and can pass out of the post decently. On defense he is primarily in the painted area roaming look to stop cutters and slashers. He can also knock down the high post jump shot and make good decisions from there. Can put it on the floor a little shows a flash of mobility and handle relying on shear size and strength to play bully ball.
Highlights
Moore is an intriguing guard/forward. He does a lot of work on the boards and is great at timing second jumps for extra tips and put backs. He can shoot the ball off the dribble effectively and he is an unselfish player looking for others in the flow of the offense. He can finish well around the rim using his long frame to get by and through defenders. He is a good free throw shooter too. A lefty that loves to get active, he moves well without the ball, sets screens, cuts, and can handle the ball under pressure. He can also shoot the 3, likes to get most of those up on catch and shoot and can get them to fall from deep.
