The 114th Annual IHSAA Boys Basketball State Tournament began on Tuesday, February 27th with 399 participating teams across four classes. Now, we are doing to 64 Sectional champions still remaining. Prep Hoops Indiana had boots on the ground coverage through Sectional week and will be in several gyms across the state on Regional Saturday. As we did prior Sectional week, we will spend this week previewing the 32 Regional games that will be played on Saturday, March 9th. Here is our preview of the four Regionals that make up the Class 1A South.

***Remember that the Semi-State will get redrawn from the eight remaining teams as opposed to maintaining “north” and “south” designation. Still for preview purposes here in the Regional, we will continue to refer to the left side of the bracket as the north and the right side of the bracket as the south.***

Oldenburg vs. Greenwood Christian (Martinsville Regional)

Oldenburg was a bit of a surprise coming out of Sectional 60 as they avenged a 56-49 win over Jac-Cen-Del from earlier in the season to cut down the nets on Saturday night. Meanwhile, Greenwood Christian survived the loaded Sectional 59 field defeating the reigning state champs Indianapolis Lutheran. Quincy commit [player_tooltip player_id='1386511' first='Max' last='Booher'], alongside juniors [player_tooltip player_id='1529293' first='Evan' last='McIntire'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1578449' first='Noah' last='Reed'] will look to lead the Cougars on to Semi-State. Prediction: Greenwood Christian

Bethesda Christian vs. Clay City (Washington Regional)

Bethesda Christian is now 20-7 on the season after rattling off 15 consecutive wins. They defeated Indianapolis Metropolitan 58-47 to win Sectional 58 with senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1761698' first='Sam' last='Mlagan'] leading the way for the Patriots. As for Clay City, they are 21-5 and have quietly spent most of the season inside of the Prep Hoops Indiana Class 1A Top 10. Neither of these teams have lost a game to a fellow Class 1A opponent this season and only two of their combined 12 losses came to a Class 2A program. They are both battle-tested and should have a great game at the Hatchet House on Saturday. Prediction: Bethesda Christian

Christian Academy vs. Barr-Reeve (Loogootee Regional)

This will be the game of the day at the Class 1A level. Jack Butcher Arena at Loogootee High School will feature #2 Barr-Reeve and #4 Christian Academy who are 23-2 and 22-4 respectively. The Vikings survived a 5 overtime thriller in the Sectional 63 championship game against Orleans. Donnie Miller, [player_tooltip player_id='2391242' first='Seth' last='Wagler'], and Braydon Knepp lead a balanced scoring attack averaging 11.5, 11.4, and 11.4 points per game. It will take a lot of firepower though to keep up with junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1297066' first='Joshua' last='Renfro'] and the Warriors. He scored 43 points in the Sectional semifinal and averages 21.6 points per game. [player_tooltip player_id='1749327' first='David' last='Cook'] is one to watch for Warriors as well. This should be a heck of a game between two teams with hopes of making it to Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Prediction: Christian Academy

Trinity Lutheran vs. Evansville Christian (Loogootee Regional)

Despite entering Sectional play at 11-11, Trinity Lutheran did what they needed to do to cut down the nets and advance to Saturday's Regional. However, it will be very difficult to take down #1 ranked Evansville Christian led by Indiana All-Star candidate [player_tooltip player_id='1158176' first='Josiah' last='Dunham']. The Eagles are 23-2 with their only losses coming to Class 3A Heritage Hills and Class 4A Jeffersonville. Evansville Christian features some good size as well in seniors [player_tooltip player_id='2282412' first='Andrew' last='Lynn'], [player_tooltip player_id='2282410' first='Jackson' last='Chesser'], and Luke Davis. They have their sights set on Gainbridge Fieldhouse this year. Prediction: Evansville Christian
