Jon Peterreins is the head coach at Deuel, he lives and breathes Cardinal basketball! The Cardinals did not win as many games as they would have liked this season, but they represented the program/community/school in a first class manner. Deuel plays a tough scheduled, is in 2 competitive conferences, and they are in a difficult Region. The Cardinals are no strangers to stiff competition!

Q&A with coach Jon Peterreins
PHD: Can you share some memories from last offseason with us?
“Memories were made in the offseason as we attended team camps of USF, DSU, Drake Bigler, Dawson Boyd, and played in the Watertown summer league. The program did team skill workouts throughout the summer with Heiser Academy and Jamal Branco. The players also put in a lot of time and effort in the weight room gaining strength.“
PHD: What can you tell us about the season?
“During the regular season the program made progress at all three levels. The C Team finished the season with a record of 7-9, while blending the players abilities from grades 9th and 10th. The C Team continues to provide extra reps for development and allows all players in the program to compete. The JV Team finished with a 8-9 record and had nice team wins. The Varsity team finished with a 5-5 record in the NEC and was 8-13 overall.“
PHD: What memories can you share with us?
“The highlights of the season would be the opportunity to practice and play our games in our new competition gym. The spacious gym was new to us and our opponents. We appreciated the support from our Cardinal fans throughout the season and were lucky to have the best Pep Band in the state to play for us during warmups.“
PHD: Any finals comments to share?
“This year’s boys basketball program stayed committed in the process of getting better on the court, but most importantly in the classroom. Our varsity final roster accumulated an impressive 3.61 GPA and earned the honors of team Academic All-State.“
